Hi Guys, While I am waiting here to get my Radiator replaced, I Just heard from Miguel Mendez that my Fridge is gone.

It used to work fine. I turned it off for cleaning & defrost and now there is this strong ammonia smell coming out of it..

He mentioned time for a new fridge Sad Just what I needed when I was planning going on a 4 week trip to CO, Leaving monday ....

My '26" Canyon Land '73 has a Norcold fridge. 2 Door (Fridge/Freezer) that works on 110V - 12V - Propane ...

The model info = norcold 778 eg3 Not sure if I should look for a fix/replace with same model or a newer version that fits?

Does anyone have any Good used Fridge/Freezer unit for sale around So California ? Any suggestions where I can find these guys?

What Brand/Model Specs would work to replace the original '73 Norcold ..

Starting to look on CL but since I am a newby there might be other / better ways to find them .... Not sure what specs etc to look for yet.

Any Help is appreciated !

I don't know what to look for other than a working unit with dimensions the
same as or a hair smaller than what you already have that works on propane
and 12 volt . You could also renovate for a slightly larger one!
You can try salvage yards in your area...if you ask someone will tell you
which one is most likely to have salvaged RV trailers or motorhomes.
Check the model number for safety recall...in might be propane you are
smelling ? Norcold will repair if it is....

Others will have more to say.

I went with a Norcold 641 series. It is about the same size as the original. I think I had to raise the top of the opening 1/2". Dometic makes a similar sized one.

I had a 641 in the 23' coach. I thought it was broken because it frosted badly, but I found it had aftermarket bins in ther door which kept it from closing totally. Once I removed them it worked flawlessly, propane, 110 or 12 volts.

Only for 19 years. It's my second one. I ignored a recall until it quit,
then they said since the ammonia had already leaked out it was no longer a
hazard, so not covered under the recall. The replacement I bought has been
in service for about 10 years with no further problem. It's rarely turned
off, except to defrost it every couple of years.

Replaced it with the same Dometic 2652 (or maybe 2752?).

I have had a 2652 for about 12 years. I turn it on and it works.

If you were around here I would send you to Leon at National RV refrigeration for a repair or replacement cooling unit. He will fix the cooling unit better than new. He is in Shipshewana Indiana. One of the GMCMI rally attendees if over there right now having his repaired.

Let's try this again for the emailers only. I corrected the badly screwed up posting for everyone else but they do not get corrections.
