Lots of folks wondering:. Irma came calling Sunday night thru Monday. For
us, not bad. Lots of small stuff down from the trees but nothing big.
Power's been off since ??? Sunday night. After the winds calmed down
Monday, I moved them GMC near the house so we could use the (which I
repaired last week) to fix supper.

Power's still off today and with 3 trees on power lines within a block of
us, plus no telling how many more elsewhere in town, no telling when we'll
get it again. Especially with no one working near here -- probably in FL.
So, in addition to the refrigerator, TV, & water heater in the GMC, the
TroyBilt is powering the house refrigerator and freezer, plus recharging
the golf cart. Close to 20 hours now without missing a beat.

The golf cart got a workout today, hauling a 24 cf trailer full of front
yard debris to the back of our 3.5+ acres at least 20 times. Charlie
will be back Thursday to finish the front 1/2 acre & start on the back 2.
Thank goodness for Charlie!!!

With the power off and the cold boxes full, no way I can leave with the
TroyBilt so it's very unlikely I'll make Elkhart.😣

By the way, no Floridian took me up on my offer to lay over here. Sure
would like to hear how they're all doing.

Ken H.

Got the yard and pool cleaned up today. Screen enclosure screens are about 3/4 gone, needed to be rescreened this winter anyway.

Power was out from about 0300 to 1100 Monday, the Onan got about 3 hours of use to power my fridge, freezer, tv, lights, coffeemakers, and neighbors fridge.

About 10 cap shingles (the ones that go over the peaks of the roof) blew off the roof, glued with roofing cement and nailed them back on.

Other than that just lots of tree debris everywhere.

If you need to, come a day or two late. We will still let you attend. The rally will not be the same without you.

Ken H, too bad I don't know how to detour the Toronto and Ontario hydro line crews coming your way.
Probably 30 trucks.
There on their way to Florida but I guess you are sort of on the way.
Hoping you get power back on soon.
If you see big green trucks that say Toronto Hydro flag them down and ask for help.

Dave, when we went to Foley, AL to help my cousin clear the trees that fell
in their yard during Hurricane Ivan, we saw Houston Reliant Energy trucks
heading that way, too, and that made us proud. But when we drove over to
Pensacola, FL to see the damage there, we saw Canadian power company trucks
and that touched my heart.

Why does it take a calamity to unify us?

They, or someone, helped us. Trucks from Alabama and other, unknown,
places began working in our neighborhood yesterday morning. Our power came
back on about 2 hours ago -- hallelujah!

The GMC with its TroyBilt generator was a lifesaver. I was a little
surprised at how well it did, mechanically and electrically. I don't have
an hour meter on it, but I'd estimate 35 hours of operation and probably
only 20 gallons or so of gas used.

The electrical part worried me because there's only one receptacle
accessible from outside: The refrigerator socket, on a 20A breaker. Into
that I plugged the GMC refer; the house refer; and, the house freezer;
plus, each evening, the golf cart charger. Never had a breaker trip.

The TroyBilt came with a duplex outlet with 15A sockets wired individually
into its two 20A windings. Along with it was a long (probably 25') heavy
duty cord with two 15 A pigtails off of each of the paired 15A plugs. If I
had thought ahead when building the coach, I'd have wired an outside socket
similarly so I could really take advantage of the generator. With the
compactness of all the bits now, I doubt that it will be practical to
rewire it before the next hurricane (first one we'd been through since
1960).

Hope everyone else affected by Matthew and Irma are as now well off as we
are!

Good to hear that you survived relatively intact. Mother nature almost
always wins these battles. You guys have hurricanes, tornadoes, humidity,
insects. We have incessant rains, mudslides, long periods of hot weather,
forest fires, volcanoes, an occasional earthquake. Matter of choice I
guess.

Ken, et al,

I was tempted, but looking at 834 miles, 13+ hours of driving, alone, after
having had several If you need to, come a day or two late. We will still let you attend.[/color]

No unexpected problems here. Worked and prep'ed for 5 days and
everything worked out. ANNIE was setup outside the house as back up.
Being used currently as a neighborhood refer and freezer for those w/o
power.

Felt that we were safer at home rather than run all over creation with
fuel shortages and heavy traffic.

Don't dare Mother Nature. Better rewire that outside socket tomorrow, otherwise she'll send another hurricane your way soon.

Would you believe?: After writing that note, something rang a bell in my
old head, so I went and looked inside my external storage compartment.
Sure 'nuff, there's a GFCI duplex outlet! NEVER been used.

It's not quite what I should have put in since the two sockets are tied and
connected to a single 20A CB, but it would have been a much better choice
than sharing the refrigerator socket.

LIve and Forget.
