Some toll roads and bridges are owned by the government, and some by
privately held FOR PROFIT companies. Nuff said.

Regardless of how much we (especially ME) hate them, we might as well get
used to them; they're probably going to become MUCH more common. That will
be just one impact of growing electric vehicle popularity. The lost
gasoline taxes will have to be made up in some way. But don't think that
conversion will result in lower gasoline taxes. Quite the opposite,
probably, when the politicians' propensity for deviously controlling our
actions, such as by lncreasing those taxes to promote "clean energy"
alternatives.

Hmmmm? How many ex Governors of Illinois have been in the past or are
currently making license plates? Heck, even "squeaky clean" Oregon governor
Kitzhaber and the first hussy, got both a state and federal investigation
after resigning just after being elected. Clean and politics? Anyway, sure
glad there are no toll roads in Oregon to drive my GMC on. There are a few
ferry boats across rivers here, normally run by counties, that charge
tolls. They are kind of fun for a change of pace.

I bet those governors are outnumbered by the contractors with whom they
"collaborated". Sin abounds.
I have stories. But adult beverages are required, and some campfire with no
ears.

The guy with the hovercraft simply runs down the bank, across the lake, and up the other side. Thumbing his nose at the tool booth overhead.
For those who're worried, the cognoscenti among crooks around here put a cardboard dealer's 'drive out' tag on the <stolen> getaway car.

Rob, they already had that. A few years ago, if you used TurboTax to do
your US taxes, you had to pay extra to submit it electronically (you still
do for some state income tax returns). That's what I would call a toll--a
fee to get from here to there more quickly and conveniently.
And the transportation tolls to move your mortal remains to their final
resting place may be nearly as expensive as an ambulance ride.

Rick,
Good point!
Remind me to tell you about the toll roads they're building in Sydney at Elkhart and how the NSW state government is funding them
and what they say to the public.

Rick, move to Georgia. Perfectly legal to bury someone (assuming they're dead) in the back yard. You are supposed to notify the authorities, so they know there's a grave there, and get a death certificate.
