Can anyone refresh my memory on how to remove and install the glove box lock mechanism in the door?

Chuck,

I happened to have the Parts Book 78Z sitting on my desk and I found it on page 23-30 23.050 Panel - Instrument (First Design). It
looks like Key #6 screws into Key #7. That will make sense when you look at the line drawing.

Chuck,

You are in luck....

I just went around with this yesterday - Really...

You do not need a key to do this - good thing...

With the door open look down at the top of the inside latch mechanism.
In a tiny hole, you should see a tooth sticking up. Get a very small screw driver and push that down while you pull on the knob - gently.
The entire lock cylinder will slide out. Pay attention to where the long tooth is on the inner end of the knob/lock cylinder.
Now, on the outside you are looking at an octagonal hole - the blasted thing is not a hex, that would be too easy.
I have a pair of small side cut pliers that happen to fit that pretty well, so you unscrew that plug and the latch mechanism is free.
You have three parts - not counting the key, the hollow screw, the latch mechanism and the lock cylinder.

When you come to put it back in, (this is so simple it is embarrassing) put the hollow screw through the hole and get it tight.
Push the lock cylinder/knob back in. I had to fiddle with it a little because that tooth did not want to slide in and let the cylinder go home.
I made a key while the cylinder was out and I have forgotten if I used it in the operation or not.

If you don't have a key, with the cylinder in hand it can easily be made.

I you have a problem, call me. I can go out to the coach and get the part that is loose in the coach right now.

Matt
