Got a radio out of a 2003 Olds. I wanted this one because it could play old tapes, and CD's. The radio knows some of the last numbers in the cars VIN. Thus locks up if removed. So does anyone know how to get around this? Bob Dunahugh

Bob,

If the radio was manufactured by Delphi, I may have a solution.
Send me the Serial Number of the radio.
I have a program that should generate the TheftLock code.

You should be able to call a gm dealer with the vin of the vehicle the
radio came out of and the serial number off of the radio and they will give
you the code.

Mikael. It's a Delphi RDS series radio. It's a really nice radio. Part number 10317994. I don't see a serial number. The VIN of the 03 Olds is 1HDX03E230196602. I understand that the radio codes it's self to some part of the VIN. And if that VIN code isn't received from the van it was installed in. The radio locks up. The GM dealer wants $80 to recode the radio. I paid $5 for it. Bob Dunahugh

Bob,

Based on the part number, the code would be 8378.
Based on the VIN, the code would be 2338.
If they do not work, use the instructions to get the serial number.

Here are the instructions:
http://www.radio-code.com/GM-RDS_explained_code.htm

Give those a try...
