There are at least 2 carb inlet filters for the Q-jet. One, long version is
used on the 455. It is a difficult one to start the fuel line threads on
because of the proximity of the thermostat housing.
The second version is shorter, and uses a shorter filter. It has more
clearance to start the threads from the fuel line. I converted my line to
AN-6 braided stainless steel, covered with insul-sleeve. The line is
flexible and much easier to handle.JWID.

John,

"Worth the cost" is too subjective to be answered easily. I'll just say
I'm glad I converted to EFI and won't be going back. I also won't be going
back to EFI without the EBL upgrade. After installing EFI, I had an
apparently un-cureable off-idle stumble. Installing EBL immediately cured
that, as well as giving me complete control of the system and opening many
other options.

As for mileage gain, I don't claim to have seen any during the time I ran
in on a 455, and certainly not with my Cad500.

Recognize that I'm a perennial "tinkerer", with almost nothing, other than
the bare shell, original on my GMC. Unless you like tinkering with your
engine, & computers, I'd have to say "No, it's not worth the cost".
