Yes it was a TZE GMC, my 1973 23' former Painted Desert #295.
We were on our way home from eclipse camping, tail end of a 300 mile trip, 4 exits from home and we were losing power. I pulled over to the edge of the pavement, about 3' off of the road, marker lights and flashers on. My wife had stood up to go astern when he hit us. She was checked out and released at the local ER with some injuries that we are dealing with.
Lots to be thankful for here, the coach absorbed a huge amount of energy.
Oh yea, it was also the first trip with my newly rebuilt 455.
A few photos from the scene.

Thanks for posting the news story, I thought there was a third vehicle involved but was not sure. I was not sure if I would post here about the accident. If I got all of my GMC information from the forum, I would be scared to leave the driveway. It is not all breakdowns and tragedies.

That sucks! Sorry to hear about that. That's my biggest fear driving mine, that some IDIOT will run into it.

Wow! Sucks to hear about a TZE involved in ANY accident. It hits home even harder when the owner is part of a close network of owners like we are.
I guess I could say that you are lucky the Coach absorbed the impact the way it did. It could have been much worse.

Dave,
Sad to see your wrecked GMC, however, I am glad that both you and your wife are OK!

Dave,
SO sorry to hear of the damage to your GMC; even happier to hear Y'All had
no serious injuries.
To counteract the predominance of "doom & gloom" here, I now wish we'd
posted all the trip reports here that we have gotten on our
"Save-the-GA-Sun-17" Google Group. Of 14 GMC's from all over at Dillard
GA, most have now made it home without incident. One had a fan clutch fail
(and quickly replaced) on the way down from NJ. Another, with 3 small kids
aboard, had Onan, and consequent A/C, failure on the way from Birmingham.
AFAIK, no one else had any trouble at all.

Ken, Jeremy had a Honda 6010 fail. The Onans, like mine, purred along nicely. There'ds a lesson here.

I am thankful you are both still here to talk about it! We will finally get ours back after a similar but much less severe accident last year beside I-20. If ours ever breaks down beside the interstate again I am getting far away from the coach. Our was hit in broad daylight in the middle of the day.

Thanks to all for you kind comments.
I am going to explore the possibility of fixing it since it has a entirely rust-free frame, and beautiful, custom maple woodwork inside.

Keep us informed as to how the insurance and claim process works out.

Not related to the accident, but Jeremy's Honda is not a 6010. It is a kludge of 6010 motor unit with 4010 electrical component grafted
on to it. Not a very happy marriage. Control panel seems to be very unhappy.
Amazing amount of damage caused by DUI driver. Very happy you and your family survived. Sad for the GMC. Especially since 23' were produced in lower numbers.

I just had my first chat with the adjuster from Progressive. He had not looked at the photos from the scene of the accident that were attached to the case file and when he did he only said "Wow, are you guys Ok?" and then pretty much declared it a total.
Now the fun begins because there is not one system on this coach that has not been touched since 2013 and I need to get him the documentation to get an accurate value. I am lucky that everything is there to take pictures of. I followed Bob Dunahugh's ordeal when his Royale burned.

Unless you have agreed value and an appraisal they will only pay you
average book which will be like 10grand. Good news is buyback will be
cheap.
