I just got a Black List call from a lady and her daughter with a GMC that has generator problems. I am assuming that means Onan. With my poor hearing I did not get her name on the phone. She started telling me about being broken down somewhere near Chicago for 3 weeks with a trans problem that she just got fixed. She asked me to look at her generator tomorrow. I suggested that she come here to NW Indiana tonight when there was less traffic and it was cooler. Her accent tells me she is probably from Texas.

Does anyone out there have any knowledge on this coach or the history behind it.

I'm going to meet her at my hangar in Valparaiso In tonight at about 9PM.

Ken,

I know plenty about this coach. Even though the owner knows little about the gmc she and her daughter are determined to learn and be good stewards.

Her coach had rust in tank problems, and hopefully the mechanic who pulled, cleaned tanks and put fuel line system did it properly.

She says generator starts but quits, that is all I know. I would put my bet on filter and carb issues related to any fuel contamination due to rusty tanks as causing issues with generator

Please help her out as best you can, she is planning on doing plenty of travel in this gmc. 76 palm beach, supposedly had plenty of good travel behind it, but i am thinking maybe seller was not as clear and honest.

Good looking coach.

She had a really bad tow(drug backward) and had to get a bunch of work done. Some should be checked to make sure work was done correctly.

Rebuilt transmission

Rebuilt carb

Tanks dropped, cleaned and hopefully new gas lines. I gave instruction on adding a aux pusher fuel pump for vapor lock
Front brake work

Rear brake check

New combo brake valve.

New relay lever

She also had them deal with installing some air bag system. I gave instructions on shut
Off/isolators to be installed but not sure if mechanic put those in.

Thanks Ken!!

Ken,

They are having air bag inflation issues.

They may not be able to make trip.

Ken,

They have not aborted the trip yet. Just for some reason they are concerned about being too low in rear. Bumper is not dragging so maybe they are ok.

Will reply back if i hear anything else. But i think they are going to keep
Moving.

I waited out there until 11PM. She was suppose to be there at 9PM. I called her cell three times and left messages twice. She did call me once at around 9PM while I was in a gas station. I returned her call 4 minutes later and got no answer.

So I just got back home at 11:45 and read your note. Thanks for the update. My problem now is that I have a morning dentist and an afternoon eye doctor appointment tomorrow.

Oh well, we will see what tomorrow brings. .

Ok, They showed up at 1:45 AM. I got them plugged in and I'll go out there in the morning to see what their problems are.

It's too bad new owners do not reach out to the community for help even
before they need assistance and feel comfortable to ask.
We receive several calls a day for assistance, and we spend time helping
them directly or have others help them in that area.

Jim et al,

That is the single reason I am working the SEMNO lunches on book. As best I can figure, I have about 20% success rate and it is a lot of work for that level of performance.

We will be back at if in October. (September would be at Elkhart and I am not missing that for the FB crowd.
