If you are eliminating your selector valve you definitely cannot have back flow through a pump.
When I did my in-tank fuel pumps I used two Airtex E3902 pumps.
I checked to see if they had a built in check valve by hooking up an air compressor to pump air backwards though the pump. I got up to 70 psi with no air going trough the pump. I stopped and didn’t try a higher pressure as there was no need to.
They have been in for several years now without using an external check valve and all works fine.

Why don’t you try air pressure back through the pumps you propose using. You can quickly find out if they have a built in check valve. If not, then you’ll have to use external check valves.

Bob, If your using one as a booster pump, you might want to put in a bypass
valve as these pumps are vain driven, as one might not want to run it all
the time.
For no vain driven one no.

I put my vacuum pump on the E8094 fuel pump. Flowed in direction of flow. Could pull 25 in. Hg against flow. And held that vacuum. It's a turbine type pump. So it has to have a check valve. RIGHT? Bob Dunahugh

Type doesn't matter in this instance - if it holds 5" MAP (25" vacuum) it isn't going to backflow.
