My door light on the dash telltale panel has finally decided to work.
The problem is that it is on ALL the time when the key is on. And it's red!! That's not good in my profession....
Before I stroke out, how the heck can I silence the light?? I have tried pushing in on the door microswitch, it won't even flicker.
Any ideas? I assume that the door microswitch must be bad? Or a inline grounding fault? Basically, I have no idea..
Thanks, Scott

Thanks Rob.
The last time I swapped out bulbs, it cost us a 6 hour delay...how the heck was I suppose to know the bulbs in the eng bleed valve switch were part of the switch. It just crumbled!! Just glad there were no witnesses........jammed it back into the overhead panel, called maintenance, and blamed it on the previous crew!!
Damn engineers........!!

You're welcome!

I was an aircraft technician not an engineer so I'm innocent!

Plus I reckon the door light isn't a safety of flight item as long as you make sure the door is closed.

Since the light hasn't worked for a while and you haven't reported anyone falling out of your GMC I reckon you're good to go with
the bulb removed!

According to the wiring diagram the door switch provides the ground to turn on the "door" light when the door is open and provides the current path for the courtesy light. Does the courtesy light also stay on or just the door light?

JD,
I disconnected my courtesy light circuit(in the overhead) a few weeks back when I replaced my speakers and new side lights. No door light when I did the upgrade. But I'll double check.
Rob,
Is that bulb a standard pull/twist off/out bulb? No light in that panel has worked till today......maybe just knocking off some corrosion with use..

Thanks, Scott

The bulb should be a "pull out" bulb from the telltale panel. I agree, it is probably a short in the wire going to the door switch, and it is not a safety of flight issue for the captain.

Scott,

Dunno / can't remember - The Blue Streak doesn't have the OEM instrument panel.

Scott,

I may have figured out the real cause of your problem. When I took out those panels with lights, switches and sort of speakers, I realized that the lights in there were typical courtesy lights and worked on a ground that could also be provided by the switch, so I taped off all the now loose wires. I haven't had a problem.

Yep. Last thing you "fixed". The factory overheads have or had 3 position switches
