Morning,

I'll be doing another cross country trip. Starting around July 23rd in
Scottsville, Virginia to arrive in San Francisco 3rd of August. Anyone
needs transport arrangements along the route, let me know.

Trip back will be leaving Los Angeles 25th of August ariving in Virignia
beginning of September.

Oh, and if anyone has a hint or two regarding routing, let me know as well.

Sir, I have 1/2 of a Birchaven dinette that needs a ride to Hal StClaire in Reo Rancho NM from Knoxville, Tn. it is the metal fold down type out of a 78. I believe Hal could probably meet you in route somewhere. He already has the other matched 1/2 and needs it for his daughters GMC. I have heard rumors that a visit to Hal's garage is an amazing adventure.

seems there are two ways to go from VA to SFO. One is south, the other
north. Any disadvantage of going south? Lengthwise they are nearly
identical. The southern route would easily go through Knoxville and Reo
Rancho..

Peer,

Seems to me that you head west by one route and back east by the other, it
makes no sense to me to do the same route twice as you won't see anything
new.

I already took most of both route in '92 with my Miata. It is more a
question of driveability.

I remember crossing the Rockies on the northern route when the first
snowfall hit the mountain. It was ... interesting :) I don't recall
anything bad on the southern route.

Both drives will just be that: ways to get to the other side as easy and
fast as possible. The three weeks in-between will be main vacation.

I've done both routes, and it depends on what part of Virginia you are
starting from, and what part of California. From northern VA where we are,
I68 to I79 to I70 and then stay on that to Salt Lake City, and then take
I15 to southern CA. This is a mountainous route, andwill take you over
steep hills across the Alleghenies Mountains, and through Denver and over
Loveland Pass in Colorado. But it is the spectacular route.

The other route from NoVA takes I81 to I40 and then all the way to I15 in
Barstow CA. Not nearly as mountainous on either end, but hotter for longer
across the south. Also not nearly as scenic.

Both routes avoid tolls, both are about the same length. Both will give you
lots of surrounding trucks, with more on the southern route.

The southern route will work for Chuck.

I once drove from Panguitch, Utah to northern VA in three 800-mile
days--first night in Limon, CO and second night in St. Louis. The southern
route I've driven many times, because Texas is usually on my itinerary.
I've driven from Albuquerque (Rio Ranch is a suburb) to Newport Beach, CA
in one long summer day (900 miles). Long distances out west.

From NoVA to SFO, the northern route would be my choice, for the most
direct route without other considerations. From Roanoke to LA, the southern
route for sure.

Charles,

seems the southern route is as good if not better with regards to
mountain climbing. So no problem from my side to pick up stuff in TN and
transporting it to NM. Ping me via eMail by mid of July so we can
arrange date, time and location.

Having done it, it ain't a rumor - some hours spent looking at quality workmanship at Hal's place is time very well spent. I did LA to N Georgia - a day short of VA - in a week, but this was stopping and visiting along the way, including visiting with the StClairs.

What a group! I come late to the party and it seems people have already figured most everything out without me lifting a finger.
Thank you so much for the offer Peer and to you Mr Boyd for all your help arranging things and offering the seat. Let me know whatever I can do to help.
Thank you again, Hal

Good morning,

the trip has come to a (near) close.

Back in Virginia on a small camp ground to relax for a day or two after
completing the round trip.

All in all around 7500mls. The coach ran great except a little issue
with the brakes overheating down from Big Bear, some vapor lock (always
and only around Albuquerque), and the realization that my AUX TANK
selector switch doesn't seem to switch the selector valve. Oh, and I
lost my third sewer cap, my sewer hose, and one sewer adapter from the
old Thetford to the more modern system. Met nice people, my girls (young
ones and the tad bit older one) had a great time, and came to realize,
that gas prices fluctuate a lot, and are way less east of the Rockies.
