Curious if anyone has guidance on where to find fittings/connectors for the auxiliary propane lead coming off the tank. The fitting on there now is very small compared to the standard propane fittings I'm used to seeing on grills and other camping accessories I have. I'm headed to Ace to see if there is an adaptor from the small existing fitting (1/4" or 3/8") to the larger modern fittings that fit on standard propane regulators.
I'd like to use up all of the propane that is currently in the tank and then get it recertified. If it passes, I'll clean it up and paint it. If it doesn't, my plan is to replace it with a new tank.
Any advice, warnings, or stories related to this would be much appreciated.

Really though the only difference between the two is Yellow is thicker. Same material, PTFE.
Theres also pink for large fittings, and Green for oxygen

J, thanks for the information on the fittings...however, you should consider using yellow teflon, it is only teflon approved for propane. white is for
water and may leak over time if used on propane. The big box stores carry it.

Actually, the color does not mean that it is a different formula. When a thread seal tape was first introduced, it only came in a single density type (“white Teflon tape“) that was commonly found in large home improvement stores. Later they began making a double density version, which was twice as thick in the same color (unfortunately with the same “white” color). White will not necessarily leak if used on propane. It is just that propane requires a tighter seal. The double density white is the same as the yellow.
Since many state and local codes adopted the use of double density tapes when making connections for natural gas, the use of same color for two different thickness presented a challenge when time came to inspect a job. Thus, a “yellow TEFLON tape” was later introduced for such application.
Since then, ASTM has broadened the specifications for PTFE tape colors:
White Single or double density, should only be usd on NPT threads up to 3/8” in diameter.
Yellow - double density, often labeled as “gas tape”.
Pink - triple density, required on all joints 1/2” or larger.
Green - oil free PTFE tape, required for use on all lines carrying oxygen (medical oxygen or welding oxygen)
