Does anyone have the part number for steering shaft boot that Alex uses? I have the 2 piece system that is available from Applied but I am tired of struggling to get it stretched over the shaft.
I'm to old and have too many things to keep maintaining and fixing on GMC to not use the easiest way to fix things.
Thanks for any replies!

I hear you on that boot. I just notice mine has split and I was hoping there was one that didn't require taking that thing apart. What a pain. I must confess that I have a triple baggie wrapped around mine with zip-ties on both ends. It looks so classy.

About 10ys ago i was faced with boot issues on the slip shaft. After reading a reference to a 4X4 shock boot being used by somebody, and looking at a picture of the whole shaft in a Caspro catalog, I went to NAPA where I opened every box that had a shock boot and found one that fit almost perfect. The brand name is "Strut Mate". NAPA part # 63975 for $15.95. It covers the CV joint clear down to the zirk on the lower part of the shaft. The upper end was a tight fit and is held in place with the zip tie supplied with the boot. The zip tie however did not work well, so I replaced it with a narrow hose clamp, Lower part was just a little big so I fit the split in the boot around the zirk and put a zip tie on either side of the zirk, keeping it from sliding either up or down, but still leaving the zirk out for greasing. Been using it that way for 10+ years now with no issues. JWID

NAPA 63975 now cross references to a Lemforder 2541201 Bump Stop; which is one boot that sort of looks right and very hard bumper neither which will work as far as I can tell.
The 2410 number is also no longer available, at least at my NAPA store.

I got the NAPA boot a couple months ago and it wouldn't fit. It is made of a tough material that is not very flexible and the ends were not the correct sizes. Maybe it was miss boxed but it was a no go for me. Maybe a good idea to use Jim's parts here.
