Okay, I haven’t been very active here lately - frankly I’ve finally finished my bachelor’s degree at the tender age of 56! Needless to say we’ve been watching our nickels while I’m in school, so the GMC just hasn’t gotten any love. I have it parked at a friends house and go to make sure it’s not a rusted hulk from time-to-time. My Costco battery cranks the motor and the Howell EFI with electronic distributor ALWAYS starts the engine after about 3 revolutions. It’s amazing.
I know it will need some fine tuning, and I still have to fix the transmission vacuum modulator (no 3rd gear), but once I get back to work I expect we’ll be putting her back on the road in earnest.
No comment or information about other EFI setups - I suspect they are very good too - but my experience with the Howell and all the help offered here has been over the top positive.
The 455 burbles like and old Cutlass 4-4-2 and there is never a peep once you turn off the ignition.
My left (driver’s) side air-bag droops over time but pumps up after 15 minutes, or so, but otherwise I just love this coach.
I can’t wait to get back on the road!

Larry,
I have had great luck with my EBL as well.
The transmission not shifting up may only be a vacuum leak. The modulator reacts to vacuum and a crack in the hose at the modulator or above at the intake manifold can cause no third gear. When my hose at the modulator developed a crack, my transmission would not shift up until I reached about 55mph. Then the shift was forced by the governor.
Check the tubes for cracks.

Best Wishes,
George

Also check the steel tube running on the passenger side of the intake manifold from front to rear for an obstruction. They occasionally get clogged up and then there is no vacuum at the modulator.
