Chris,

What price range are you looking for? You might want to look at mine on the Classics for sale listings.

Hi, Gary-
Great looking rig! Perhaps a little more money than I intend to spend (all at once), but you have done some great work. I am well aware that being an owner/operator of a GMC is a labor of love.....and I am still trying to get clear perspective on how much of the work I am interested in tackling (to save $ and for the education)...and how that jibes with my budget, schedule, and desire to use the coach .

I have made a few connections with MN owners.....and I am hoping to learn a lot as we inventory the GMC I am currently considering. This is a fantastic group! I will keep an eye on your ad. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Best, Chris Neis

Weekdays don't work for me, I might try and see it this weekend if that doesn't bother you.
Do you have any contact info? Is it on Craigs list or something

I'd love to join the inspection party and learn more about the GMC. I've got mine home now hoping to get the roof and windows sealed before the snow flies. Laughing

Chris - drop me a call or text when you and Jon R nail down a time.

Chris and I got out there to see the coach, hopped the fence and sneaked a peek.
Eventually the key holder showed up and we got in.

My main concern is the engine, it blows Smoke on start could be carb or valves, I can never tell the difference
It also needs a manifold, do the 403 ones crack like the 455 and need headers? or is it just a set of rem flexe gaskets away from being quiet
Except for the leak it's a lot quieter than my headered 455

We got it started, tried to start the Onad ( it just clicks ) and took it for a drive.
We did not test the Roof Air, or pressurize the plumbing.
Both roof fans work, one original, and a fantastic fan in back
Drove it on the freeway, through construction and it went great, my overbored 455 with 3.70s has more power tho :D

Notes,
its a 77(?) with a 403
The Pass side manifold has a serious leak, if it was a 455 Id assume headers are needed.
It has two new, but quite small mufflers, but they seem to work...
It blows smoke on startup, looks like oil, and eventually clears up, it could be just running really rich when cold.
The carb is very rusty, I punched it and the secondary linkage stuck, not WOT, but high idle, made it fun to try and stop.
It did run smooth once warmed up
Alt belt squealed when cold
pass side air bag would not vent, up only
Original compressor, but seems strong ( surprisingly quiet )
windows are tinted but the film is peeling
It has a 4bag, Jim K's version
Steel wheels
Needs tires and wheels
2 A&E awnings, main awning is stuck ( Chris said he had it out before so it should be useable, 2nd is drivers side house window, doesn't cover kitchen area
Main awning has a aluminum cover
Onan starter only clicks won't spin even with a jump
Main Battery is weak, barely starts
known leak pass side rear bedroom, wall and cabinetry destroyed
Steering isn't bad, could use a steering box adjustment and probably some front end parts
Shocks seem good, look to be KYB, need to confirm.
Front brake rotors smooth, no gouges, pads look thick
frame clean and little rust
Body reasonably solid
Has a really weird Gothic entry handle
speedo bounces, cable needs lube
Needs cockpit carpet, hatch is bare wood
has a tow bar that comes with the coach
Sink is loose in the hole
has a nice faucet, one of those pull out styles
entry door loose needs attention, maybe just bushings.

Glad you got to check it out.

I think the 403 is similar to the 455, as in you can pull the manifold off, check for cracks and hope for the best, and you can use the remflex and see if you have luck.

I was hoping it was in better cosmetic shape. It sounds like for the price it is not too bad of a deal, except Keith mentioned the bad cabinets. I hope that you at least got to see Keith's coach, and get to see some others, to see what you like or dislike in the different coaches, and you are getting a better idea on what you are looking for at what price point, and the kind of work something might need.

Thanks for making time to do a walk around and take a drive with me, Keith. Just in case you haven't been told recently- You are a stand-up guy!

I gained a lot of insight by spending the morning with you. Also spoke with Jon Roache again the other day. Glad to hear there is an enthusiastic group in the MSP metro area! Thanks, again. I will be in touch.

Greetings! I saw a post of the GMC Forum that you had installed some Ramco heated mirrors for Alan Martin years ago. I am installing a set on my 78 Royale and have hit a snag regarding the heat, mirrors work fine. The wiring diagram from Ramco shows both heat black wires going to fused power through the switch the switch grounded via white wire. My switch has three connections and when the power is on the other two connections both go hot - I am afraid to ground the switch AND the white wires from the mirrors; all I envision is sparks! What am I missing and how did you handle this install oh so many years ago?
