Gene,
I looked into the wireless air systems, but there were a few too many bad reviews and failures to make me feel comfortable with it. I know a lot of people use them and like them here, but I just don't like to use products with a history of failures, I don't like being stranded.

I researched a lot when deciding which way to go with the air system, originally I wanted the wireless air, until I read reviews (granted, not on a gmc). I don't like plastic in my air system, in my experience it gets brittle with age and cracks, I replaced all of the plastic in my system with brass air brake fittings.
I also couldn't find an aesthetically pleasing way to integrate the remote into my dash Very Happy

What I have now is essentially the same, just without the wireless aspect . i have independent readouts for each bag and up and down buttons. Mine won't maintain a certain pressure, but since I have no leaks I don't see that as a concern at the moment.
Only time will tell if I've made the right call! To each his own I say!

I find this quote interesting from that Gary Bovee:

"If you are going to be using the Wireless Air System to level your coach when parked, I recommend using a compressor that has a 100% duty cycle rating unless you don’t mind waiting 7 minutes between shutdowns."

Because I've never seen a way to bypass the Wireless Air built-in 30% duty cycle. So it seems pointless to install a compressor rated for a 100% duty cycle. Perhaps you could reset the manifold and force it to bypass the cooling phase? I'm not sure.

Given this - I'm replacing my compressor with a VIAIR 400 - a MUCH faster compressor with a 33% duty cycle. It pumps close to 50% faster than the 450 and according to VIAIR it can run for 20 min straight (then rested for 40 min). I'll need to run new, larger wire however...

Rob,
I would recommend getting a continuous duty compressor. Simply for the fact that you never know. If you need it to air up your tires, or a buddies tires, or run an impact wrench to change a tire, it's nice to have that piece of mind that you aren't going to kill it.
The 400 puts out 1.4CFM at 90psi
The 444c puts out 1.16CFM at 90
The 450 puts out .97CFM at 90
The 350C puts out .79cfm at 90.

My logic was that I'd rather sacrifice a little speed (the 444 will fill my 2.5 gal tank in 2 minutes from 0-135psi) to have a continuous pump that I don't have to worry about.
Here's where I got mine: 135 brand new. (they buy the dual compressor kit and split them)

I'd rather have speed over duty cycle. There is nothing to worry about - since the controller forces the duty cycle on me.

On top of that - I can't envision a situation when I'd need to run a 400 compressor for more than 20 minutes. In fact - I've only hit the "compressor inoperative" cutoff once (with my current slow Firestone) and that wouldn't have happened if the compressor was faster.

My compressor is never gonna get used for tires or anything other my air bags (it's buried and hard plumbed). If you need that capability - like you say, you may want duty cycle over speed...

True enough,
I was thinking less about the air bags, and more about using the compressor for airing up tires and running air tools.
Makes perfect sense to pair the 30% duty cycle of the controller with the duty cycle of the compressor as long as that's the compressors only job.

My next major hurdle is to redo all of my electrical wiring.
After a lot of research and trial and error this is what I have come up with as a way to keep the 120V side simple and effective.

I'll run the Genset and Shore power through a 50A transfer switch to the top half of my 120 panel. (may have to split this one more time to deal with the 50A 2 hots. Thoughts?)

I'll then run an inverter and the output of the first TS into a 15A transfer switch to the bottom half of my 120 panel.

This should give me 120 where I need it regardless.
I Want the fridge and AC's to fun on shore and generator power, but not on inverter. The TV/Stereo and outlets I want to work all the time.
I think this should do that.

Take a look at the diagram and tell me what you think. Anyone see any glaring flaws?

Justin,
Brian may have been a little pointed in his response, but it would help if you uploaded you photos to the GMC PhotoSite. It is a free without drama GMC photo storage site that has 1400 users, almost 46 photo which have been viewed almost 26 million times. It is a place that is keeping out GMC pictures safe for 10+ years after we were screwed by 2 FREE photo sites that either held our pictures for ransom and just shutdown and lost all our pictures. It is one of the GMC sites that you should join to have access to the best GMC Tech photo site. It is managed by a GMCer for GMCers!

Easy to join, go here, go to the bottom of this page to add your pictures.

I will upload them at some point to the photo site.

No disrespect, but I've been using photobucket for a very long time and have yet to have a problem. I highly doubt it has "screwed up your computer"
I have several thousand photos on there that document the majority of my projects for the last 10 years and I have no intention of moving them.
The photos site is poorly done in my opinion and everyone here uses it as a crutch as opposed to posting in threads like this. The last thing I want to do to find an answer is browse through 30000 photos on my 4 inch iPhone screen looking for the right one with a useable description. I prefer a thread like this one that has useable dialogue along with the photos.

Like I said no disrespect intended, and I will upload them in bulk at a later date. But for now I'll do what I have done for 10+ years and use photobucket.

They're not suggesting you quit posting here and instead post on the photo site, just suggesting that you HOST your GMC photos there and continue to post like you've done so far. The problem is that about half our members and, in many cases, the one's with the most knowledge don't DO the forum. Or any forum for that matter. They can't see the photos you've posted like we forum users can so you're missing about half your potential audience.

What I do is host them on the photo site and link them into the thread just as you have done. BUT, for the email guys, I also copy and paste the URL LINK into the thread so the email guys can click on the link and see the photos. Makes for more work for us but I've gotten some very, very valuable info from the email guys that otherwise would not have responded.

Over the years, photo sites have come and gone, Many, many great older threads here have no photos for this reason. Some sites hang around for years and then hit you up for fees if you still want access. Others just go away or get bought by someone with different rules and different links. The internet is absolutely full of threads with links to nowhere. While I agree the photo site, and this forum, software could be better, it is what it is, it's free, and, most importantly, IT IS OURS.

I'm enjoying your build thread a great deal.

I'm enjoying your postings and photos on SOS (Some Other Site) very much as
well, Justin. We do appreciate your expertise and fresh perspective no
matter how it is shared.

We are a little gun shy from being burned by other photo sharing sites

My electric panel (17.95 at Lowe's less 10% military) has split buses for the two 120 volt legs. I just put 8 single breakers in, and distributed the load much as you have, except I did separate breakers for each side of the coach outlets rather than one for all. If I ever acquire anything that wants 240V, alls I have to do is get a dual (ganged) breaker ans plug it into two adjacent positions. This is the normal box setup - two buses which feed every other position. While I'm still on 30 amp (the last weekend) I simply fed both buses with a jumper and remembered to leave the water heater off when the A/C was on. When I inadvertently left it on, nothing tripped. It was the limited breaker capacity of the old box which ed to the either - or switch. Single 20 Amp breaker for both. On separates, the total isn't 30 amps... or the pole outlet had a bigger breaker. It didn't trip anyway.

Okay folks, No you didnt scare me away!
Work's been a real bear lately but I have made some good progress on the ole' girl.

Once everything was gutted I started looking at the floor, there was a rotten spot in the back and a hump in the middle (from the factory spray foam overexpanding believe it or not)
so....we pulled the entire floor.
If you haven't done this before it's a BIG JOB.
Both wheel wells, the generator surround, the propane tank and it's surround all have to come out first.

Once all of that is out you then have to remove a whole bunch of rusty self tapping screws. An impact driver is a godsend here.
Once the screws are we pried up each panel (they are factory glued down, so this is a tough job.
Once she was all gutted here's the result:

From here I figured might as well replace all of the fuel lines, so we did that. (~50 ft of 3/8" line)

Then we noticed that the body mounts were all flat as a pancake from 40 yrs on the road so with the help of my new toy we pulled all of those out.

For new ones I went to Tractor Supply and bought a 3/4" solid rubber stall mat and cut it into strips on the band saw. Worked like a charm. $40 for the mat, and I only used 1/3 of it. The rest of it is now an "anti fatigue mat" in front of the table saw.

From there we burned the old floor and replaced all of the ultra shitty sprayed in insulation with some nice foam board (1" is perfect fit). Put some liquid nails down and screwed it all down with stainless screws so the next guy won't have to deal with 40 years of rust like I did!

I didn't screw down the panel over the blackwater tank, as I still need to modify all of that for the new bathroom setup.

And then at present I am removing ALL of the sprayed in foam crap. not a fun job I might add.

While being so busy at work I have managed to spend some time finding pieces that I will need for the build.
First up was a fridge, we will be putting it under the counter, so I decided on a Dometic RM2351. They run about 1000 bucks new so I went through a lot of trouble and jumped through a lot of hoops to set up with a dealership status from Dometic, Norcold, etc. As it turns out you can buy EVERYTHING that they sell for CHEAPER online than you can get it with a "Wholesale" Dealership discount. Apparently the big guys buy in such large quantities that they get a big enough discount to mark things down to below wholesale. (the wholesale price on the 2351 is 670+150 shipping their pricing structure is asinine)
So a lot of time and effort wasted there.

I just happened to be browsing craigslist one day last week (okay so maybe I spend several hours a day on craigslist) and saw one at a surplus store here in town!
45 minute trip and $189 and I'm the proud owner of a brand new 2351 with a slight scratch on the bezel. Score.

Next up was the stove, we don't use the microwave much so opted for a real stove instead of that convection junk. I looked forever and finally found a 17" Suburban stainless steel model new blemished on ebay and snagged it for 396 shipped. (he has a couple more too). Not the best deal I've gotten, but I looked a lot and can't find a better deal for the stainless stove. It's about 800+shipping elsewhere.

Also snagged a dometic 310 toilet, a Kreuger 1100 watt inverter, a maurey tankless water heater, and quite a few other goodies that I can't remember.

I'm excited to get the insulation done so we can actually start building stuff!
