| Our new baby. A 77 Kingsley [message #272770] |

Just purchased a 77 Kingsley from an estate auction. It was advertised as a 403 but when I popped the hatch, I was suprised to find a Cad 500 with port fuel injection. It has 7 alcoas, new but 7 year old Firestones, a HUGE sway bar in the front with rebuilt front end. Rebuilt rear brakes with sway bars. A new Norcold fridge and a what appears to be a newer Surburban furnace. The genset is a 6.5kw Onan Emerald that has a leaky carb. The interior cabinets are custom cherry that are in great shape. The best part is that is a rear twin dry bath front kitchen configuration. A custom made aluminum water tank and a large capacity how water heater. The mufflers are stainless but I didn't think to check if the whole exhaust system is. There is supposed to be a 486 laptop for programming the fuel injection but we didn't see it. A lot of this info was not made public and was provided when we settled up with the auctioneers. We're going to get it tomorrow and are hopeful that no one steals the two brand new batteries. I'll know more tomorrow after driving it the 50 miles home.
It runs great, fired right up cold, no smoke no shake, but we were not allowed to drive it. The nephew of the owner retrieved it from the farm and drove it to the auction site. He said it drives and stops well and the trans shifts fine. The throttle cable was frozen so they drove it with one guy running a wire to operate the throttle and another guy giving instructions, steering, and braking. 
I have a parts coach and have already pulled out the throttle cable. Oh and with the 500 Caddy, it has a 3.46 final drive.
It was last used a couple year ago. The carpet is pretty bad, drivers windshield cracked and the wall covering will need replacing. Micro mini-blinds. It appears to be vinyl wall paper that has come loose in a few places. Nice padded vinyl ceiling with button tuffs. Sounds odd but looks nice. Dual air of the early style, 13.5 in front and 11 in the rear. Dry bath looks fine. No idea of the condition of the plumbing. It has an upgraded air pump but it would not air the tires so they used the shutoffs and shrader valves. Rooftop satellite receiver, dual air, and a small roof pod. Zipdee awnings on both sides. Paint is so so. Fiberglas fender flairs. Oh, and severa mouse nests in the drawers...
Our dream coach has always been the twin bed, dry bath models. I'm not sure what we will do with it and until we have a chance to really check it out we won't know but first blush is that we will keep and renovate it and ultimately sell the ElleII now that it is almost 'finished'  I'll post more photos tomorrow.
Oh, I'll send this info to the Registry but I got it from the estate of Homer Ring in Columbia TN. He purchased it in August of 2010 from another Columbia guy named David Klutsenbaker who purchased it a couple years earlier from Zeb Frady in Atlanta. He THOUGHT it came from an older couple from somewhere north of Atlanta who aged out. Apparently that is the person who did all the upgrades.
I know NOTHING about fuel injection so I'm going to be on a quick learning curve.
I nearly got it for a song but at the last minute a guy jumped in and we ran it up a bit. Still got a good deal we think and, if it's as solid as we think, a great deal.

I don't know RC. I'll measure it when we get home. But the passenger side bed runs into the close closet and it will be easy to put a notch for my feet or just narrow the closet.

Egt is exhaust gas temperature or commonly known as a pyrometer. Yes I recognize it, it is the one missing from my barn. Please return asap..

Kerry,
Congrats on the new coach, it look very good! The fuel injection system appears to be an Accel Gen 6 MPFI system, the same as I run. I was probably put together by Rance Baxter at rancefi.com . Do you have the cast iron or Edelbrock manifold. The Gen 6 system if everything works will just motor down the road. You don’t need to play with it or change parameters or you will be parking it. The computer is the hard part to find and the rest is pretty much available ;off the shelf. I didn’t bring my parts list when we left for Tucson, but I have found the injectors , fuel regulator. What color injectors do you have? When I get home I can get you all the information I have rounded up on the Accel DFI system. When you go to his site go to the GMC motorhome page and click on the 500 Cadillac 4 barrel style. The Gen 7 upgrade is the next step if you want to upgrade the electronics, the manifold and injectors are reusable. If you have other question email me.

The paint job on that coach is 1978 only. Have you checked the TZE? Looks
like a super coach.

Don't discount the PO - he/she was not afraid to upgrade, maybe they liked the 78 color scheme.
These things were moving kind of slow by then, perhaps a very late 77 chassis that went out in 78 livery?

The TZE is 267V1000808 which translates to:
2= twin bed interior from 76-77
6= 26 foot
7= 1977 model year
V= Made in Pontiac Mi
1= Nothing common to all GMC motorhomes
0= Nothing common to all GMC motorhomes
00808 = this was the 808th coach produced in 1977
So this coach was a 77 twin bed floorplan and was almost exactly in the middle of the 1694 units produced in 77. I don't know how many Kingsleys were made and have no idea why the paint scheme is a 78 but it is an interesting mystery.
What did the paint scheme on a 77 Kingsley look like? This paint has some issues in spots so perhaps it was repainted. There is bubbling on the fibreglas cap by the generator so that has definitely been repainted.
Hopefully, there will be a data tag inside the glove box. I didn't notice it but wasn't looking. I had taken a photo of the TZE tag under the hood for the register and looked no further.
