As a follow-up to the oil cooling discussion, The OEM Oil flow oil goes from the engine filter enters the radiator in the upper port on the right side of the radiator passes through heat exchanger in the radiator bath and then out the lower port on the right side of the radiator returning back to the engine.

Some have suggested that the flow be reversed, go in the lower port and out the upper port in the radiator. Is there merit to this change of flow direction?

In all my Chemical Engineering classes it was emphasized that vertical coolers should always have entrance at the bottom and exit at the top. The reason for this is you can get an air bubble at the top if the procedure is reversed. This will reduce the efficiency of the cooler. I always enter the cooler at the bottom and exit at the top and do so on my radiator.
