David,

I agree, if someone that rents one of your GMC suffers a blowout of an old tire it won't be good for business!

Don Adams in Dallas is going to drive his GMC over to Southwest Wheel, remove a front wheel and try their wheel; however, I just
realized he may have a problem. He bought the coach that Arch built which has 80mm calipers on the front wheels.

I have been working with Bob Dunahugh and Tom Whitton and we've discovered there are at least two different 80mm calipers, the ones
that Tom has won't clear the 16" wheel, the ones that Bob has will clear the wheel with a bit of grinding on the mounting tabs.

Photos of 80mm calipers on the Napa website appear to be ones that will fit the 16" wheels without grinding:

I understand that you wouldn't bother upgrading to 80mm calipers but if any of the GMC's you own has had that mod and has the same
calipers that Tom has it is quite possible that the Southwest 16" wheel won't fit.

Safety is my main motivator. If it was just me driving I wouldnt have an issue risking the used, old tire. But last year I had a
unit out in the desert and the front tire just exploded. Luckily there was no one near it but it was a tire that appeared to have no
side or tread separation. In the last month I have bought almost a dozen used tires and once mounted they all were crap. I just feel
like Im throwing $$$ away when I buy used. Those Southwest wheels have so many positives as they are new, look good and the price is
right at $40 each. I do not ever have any plans on upgrading to the 80mm brakes or rear disc due to the fact that there is so little
actual use put on them per year. I know that if I go with these off brand 16.5 Thai tires That they could be complete crap but at
the very minimum I need to tire up 8 units for the trip out west. And I agree that who knows what is going to be available in
another 5 years. I have 3 units now with Alcoas and would love to convert them all some time in the future but the fact is replacing
all the reefers or adding swamp coolers is a better selling point and not shiny wheels that are just going to get dusty anyway. 'Ive
got one more tough year financially and cash flow will be much better once the land is paid and the improvements are done this year
(well and solar). I can feel critical mass approaching as I started with 4, added last year and will have 18 or 19 this year. I
think I can double one more time to 40 units by next year but after that I cant fathom doubling again. My goal was 50 in 5 years and
it appears that I will reach that. Now I think to my self that any upgrades are then times 50 gets me anxious and stresses my wife
out to no end. She doesnt even want to hear about them anymore. Thanx to all and I really appreciate the input
Thanx. David

It could be that most all the 16 inch steel rims would fit the rear wheels. This being possible it would be advantage

to keep the 16.5 on the front only and 16 on the rear. This would keep the gas mileage up a little and the speed the same

at the rpm as normal. it would be ok to only have a spare on the back that is 16.5 inch rim that way it would work as a spare

with the 16 inch in the rear on either side and the front propulsion tires. I think you could mix the rear tires 16 and 16.5.

this would mean you need only 4 16 inch rims per vehicle and 2 16.5 rims per vehicle. This could be a good design?

latter if you want you could change them all to 16 inch. but you could put new tires on the front and used on the rear

for you only go about 30 miles each way per year. mickey anaheim ca. 77 palm playa

hope my joke about the names was funny. if not sorry. :-) best regards. I will take 4 X 16 inch rims if you do this.

Do I need a 10ply tire? I am converting all my units to 16" tires and trying to find the cheapest out there. Once installed these units will be traveling a max of 75miles a year and never get above 30mph. They are going to rot off before the tread wears away. If Ive got to go with 10ply the even with a fleet account at tire rack Im looking at a $100. With the cost of the wheel and shipping and mounting Im not saving that much over just biting the bullet and buying Firestone 16.5 transforce @ 154. Im just looking for a way to not spend $19k on tires. Am I fighting an unwinable battle here?

You will be fine.
