Ken,

Well since Dan's an Aussie Mate I reckon Vegemite is the way to go!

Helen and I carry a jar with us in Double Trouble so if you have an ignition module failure and don't have anything else we'd be
glad to supply a bit of Vegemite!

This article pretty much says what those of us mechanical guys that have had thermal battles can tell you...

It doesn't take much of an air gap to be an effective heat transfer block. It doesn't matter whether you are for or against, that gap can greatly interfere with heat flow. If you want it, it can stop it. That is pretty much what that whole article is about.

Now, if you want to know the why for silicon grease, go back up the page. If you want to know why the white stuff (zinc oxide, barium titanate or etc), that is just to enhance the thermal conductivity. (And increase sales)

That might be a legitimate use for the stuff. One certainly doesn't want to purposely ingest it. Ick.

Mark,

It's an acquired taste like scotch. I brought some to several GMCMI Conventions and the consensus was as you noted!

Ken,

Correct! With the increased blood supply they come up with clever ideas and the article is evidence of that.

All you guys get is swollen feet! ;-)
