My BIG Olds is still sucking through the Rochester metering device it came with. No real problems because of it except for the typical / occasional vapor lock. If I thought TBI EFI would help the MPG I'd go for that.

Ken Frey rebuilt 455 running Paterson Q-Jet and Paterson distributor.

Will run 70 mph happily all day through 3.21 to 1 final drive.

Pilot has a VERY light right foot when accelerating from stop, however,

Single external Carter 4070 in series with Edelbrock external high pressure

Runs great but most importantly starts immediately.

Might be of intrest for my toad if it weren't for the fact the front money represents nearly what I have in it in total.  It runs fine, and even kinda idles when it's warm but only kinda.  PO (Frank the Lurker) said he tried FI on it but wasn't happy and went back to the edelbrock carb that's on it.  Idles around 12-1500 and sounds like John Force at the line.

A friend of mine I worked with at AT&T built a Factory-5 Cobra replica and after 2 years or so located an aftermarket EFI system that uses all Ford parts and electronics. The throttle body bolts to the intake just like a carb so you get to use a stock A/C assembly. It is a slick system and the little 302 goes like scalded stink. Parts are readily available, low in cost and reliable. It was the upfront cost that will make you cry....$3500 or so!! I'll call him next chance I get and get the name of the company.

> When the State of GA in its infinite stupidity outlaws proper gasoline, I'll revisit the systems.  Hopefully, by that time, somebody will have turned out a port ready manifold, sensors, and computer to run it.  I wonder if you could derive crank angle and cam position from a distributor with a tone wheel in it...  Or KISS using something similar to VW's CIS or CIS-E, which gets the bulk of benefit from port injection fairly cheaply.  (I'm full of ideas for someone else to implement)

Running well with a rebuilt Qjet and patterson ignition system for now. But I never can seem to leave well enough alone...

I will be converting to Air Sensors MAF TB EFI kit that I ran on My 406 Trans AM. It was one of the earliest conversion kits. I bought it off of an RV customer who was trading in his coach at Lazy Days ~25 years ago and it worked well for me.

Jim B makes a good point about EFI though- if you break down in BFE, you better know how to fix it. I will be carrying the Qjet and a bypass regulator in case the EFI goes Tango Uniform. I can switch it out on the roadside in 30 min or so.

I also have a complete [except for the tank] LP gas conversion kit that was OEM on Holiday Ramblers in the 80s that I might try as an experiment. Apparently there were some lawsuits that scared dealers from selling coaches with the dual fuel system. I got it for free off of a trade in. You can switch from LP to gas and back.

I will also be upgrading the ignition with an MSD 6 with timing controll that I have laying around.

I would advise anyone going the EFI route to invest in a quality fuel PSI gauge and a wideband O2 sensor. I have become a big beliver in useing the wideband for tuning.

everyone ( who wants to tune should have a wideband.
I run one with my carb, love it.
I'm sure it will pay for itself in a couple of trips.
When I first installed it I was running way rich at cruise and way lean at WOT...not good for economy OR performance OR longevity!
