At least in doing dishes a normal way, you use much more water than using a
dishwasher. For the motor home, a tiny dishwasher might be a big win.

G'day,
We installed a Suburban Gas/ Electric storage hot water heater about 8 years ago. We were going to go gas only, as we don't have a generator. We kept the roof air as there were often times we had access to AC power, why not the same thinking for hot water!
We fitted ours flat on the floor, making a cowl that fitted the gap at the top and extending the flue. As I wanted a smooth look on the outside, I adapted a Fiamma recessed door in the opening and fitted my own vents to it, looked good. Problem the Fiamma door frame was plastic and was softened by the heat produced whilst using gas....Dammm.
I fitted the supplied door which had no problems with the heat, but the outer shield on the door directed the heat up, discolouring the paint and bubbling the wall. I contacted our Suburban supplier to see if another type of door was available for curved walls, You have a what! and the walls are curved! Short answer, no.
I was nosing around Bunnings (national chain of hardware stores)and found a galvanized vent designed to fit in brick work to vent the under floor of houses. I attached that over the flue outlet on the door, looks a little agricultural but has worked perfectly for years. I am revisiting the door idea to neaten it up before the coach gets a respray, Any ideas?

Mark. With all the help with the guys on here, and local Camping world Tech. I installed my gas/electric on a angle platform so the outside door would work. Alot of guys on here have coaches that have the same set up and are all angled. Makes a clean fit on the outside.
FYI: A call to Suburban before I started looking for an answer. They told me.. and really all they told me..was the top of the heater where it exausts has to be flush with the outside, so it will vent to the outside. If not gas will build up behind the door and could get into the inside of the coach and thats never a good thing.

Joe, et al,
One thing you may need to watch out for: The door on my 6 g. Atwood has a
bubble in the paint adjacent to the burner. Obviously it was overheated,
perhaps during some extended period of flame operation. Perhaps there
should be a heat shield inside the door to protect it. This may not be a
common problem, but I wish I'd protected against it before the new (10 yr
ago) paint job.

Ken just curious, does the atwood heater have a flange that mounts on the outside and returns inside the waterheater frame?
My suburban does then the door is mounted to it.
Its all a learning experince..
I could see how it could get hot.. Heck you where looking for an excuse to get a new paint job anyway..lol Just kidding.

Oh Ken.. ment to add.. My suburban has a heat shield over the exaust port.. Think that might help?

Joe,
Yes, the Atwood has a flange over the body which also carries the door
hinge. And there's a grate over the exhaust. But no heat shield on the
door adjacent to the burner -- that's the source of my problem. Sort of
strange that it took 6-7 years to create the bubble.

They might of had that problem and changed the one I have. It has a heat shield.. really can't see a wire mesh behind it but did not stand on my head to look all around it.
Its all a learning experince for me..
