I just took my 2012 Caddy in again for a recurring problem with the remote start function. Cadillac has all maintenance included for 5 years and I now have had 3 free oil changes in 3500 miles. Every time I take it in, they decide they can screw GM into an oil change.

Silly isn't the right word--idiots or compulsive behavior may fit the
description. During those years, Cadillac had by far the fewest engineering
resources and capabilities.

The saying "too many cooks can spoil the broth" may explain why the "fewest" had the "best".

| Assembled quotes | Bob,
Then I guess the engineers at Cadillac that designed the 500 were all "silly" when they put a drain in the front section of the pan!

From My point of view..
Cadillac of the day was interesting. They had a very different Engineer/Bean Counter relationship. They knew that they were Cadillac and the flagship of General Motors, so, they copied a lot to cut engineering cost, but also had validation test specifications that were better than most others. That all meant that they got to do some things better than others - like separating the exhaust ports. They worked very hard - starting on the late 70's - to make round bores and other important things better. They also bought very high end piston rings and bearings, used as high a nickel content block/crankcase as they could manage, and did not go with the lowest cost gaskets and seals. But, they still had to get the UAW to assemble it correctly.
This is why they got to hire outside engineering for more test and development than any other group at GM. That is why I know about this.

Now you guys got me to wondering. I buy two gallon (I think) or ten gallon buckets of Rotella, cos I use it in the toad and the GMC. I just drain, fill and replace the filter, and then fill to the full mark, leak check, and then double check full. I don't know if I end up using five or six quarts. It will hold at full for the better part of two thousand miles, which I figure is about par for a 90K plus engine in 95 degree plus heat and road speeds. I guess I'll habve to measure it now just to b ehappy. It appears to have the stock dipstick.

And the same will fill mine to the ADD mark. If I add the extra quart, it will be gone in less than 1000 miles, but the level stays at the ADD mark after that. Go Figure??
