G'day,
I liked the Torin Jack Stands with the security pin I decided to see if
Harbor Freight jack stands could be modified.
As you can see in the photos below they can! In the picture I used a 1/4"
stainless steel allen head bolt as that was the first one that came to hand.
I will buy grade 8 allen head bolts as the shear strength is higher. If
you're REALLY paranoid you could put a wing nut on the through pin.
It took me about 15 minutes to figger this out and modify one jack stand
with a hand drill. I'll make a template and drill the rest on my drill
press.

PS - Mac as you can see the HF jack stands are also marked 3 TON and since
the spec in their catalog says they're rated at 6000 pounds I have come to
the conclusion that means 6000 pounds total for two or 1.5 tons each.

Nor does it say on their website, but the do have a page to send them
questions, so I did.

I had questioned the capacity of jack stands a while ago. I was lead to believe the 6,000 lb. rating was for two.
Also, I was thinking of putting a pin in the jack for safety. I thought about using those clinch? pins that hold the trailer draw bar in the receiver. I would think they would be very hard.

Floor jacks, jack stand and other equipment are rated at "point of
load or lift". That is the weight at the point of support. If it is
a 3 ton jack or jack stand it rated to support 3 tons at that point.
It is just like your tires on your coach, each one supports so much of
the load of the coach, NOT the entire weight of the coach! I
personally use 3 ton jack stands at the front of the coach and some 6
ton and the rear of the coach. Also along those lines I use (2) 3 ton
floor jacks to lift the front and 2 of the 4 ton yellow Ford bottle
jacks to life the back with jack hooks. For those of you that have
been to the GMCMI rallies where they weigh the coach at each wheel you
know how much is on each wheel. We are no where close in exceeding
the capacity of a 3 ton jack stand on either side in the front and 2 6
ton jack stands on the back. I use a Safety factor of 1.5X of load
minimum, some would use slightly more. I could locate my rigging
manual confirm the safety factor.
