On the I-295 ramp to the Capital Beltway, in my Ford Flex, out of gas. I
have been here since 4:00 PM. It took 55 minutes to get Good Sam to
understand where I was...no street name, no address, no milepost. There
system cannot work without that. It's like trying to buy a part at
Autozone--"what make and model?" After elevating to a supervisor, they
figured it out. They spent the next 20 minutes trying to find a service
provider, before telling me they'd call me back. After another 15 minutes,
they called and told me Automotive Rescue of Fairfax would be here in 45
minutes. They called 45 minutes later and said they were at an intersection
on the other side of the Potomac and where was I? I told them and they told
me they don't provide fuel service on freeway shoulders by policy. I told
them that if I was on a city street, I'd have walked and found my own damn
gas.
Back to Good Sam. Very apologetic, they'd find someone to deliver fuel and
call back. 30 minutes later, they called, and it will be 40 minutes. It is
now 7:40. In 15 minutes, I will have been sitting here four hours.
The Maryland service patrol will come when they get done clearing accidents.
We'll see who gets here first.
I'm done with Good Sam. This isn't just a lousy provider. This is an
organization that does not know to do what they do, and that does not follow
through. I've been paying for their service for 8 years, but now I'm done.
So, what's the latest? Is CoachNet through FMCA any better? Allstate could
not possibly be worse--but they probably use Affinity same as Good Sam.

Rick,
Here's what we all contributed back in February of 2010. I keep it updated with additional inputs and the last time I did so was
September 4, 2011.
If anyone would like to revise their comments or has any additional comments PLEASE do so.
I am going to add the dates the comments were made from this point forward.

There have been a number of discussions under with different subject lines. Below I have summarized what was said. As you can see I
have not drawn any conclusions from the information I have merely provided a summary along with some observations and suggestions.
1) Dan G. noted the following regarding Progressive: "The adjuster I was dealing with put me in touch with road side assistance.
That is where I should have been to start with. I got a call this morning from a very nice lady, Vickie. She said because the GMC
has a special drive train that they were paying the 1086.00 tow bill in full."
2) Ken H. noted: "I've been very happy with Allstate Motor Club's RV Road Help plan for many years."
He contacted them recently regarding their tow service and they advised; "As stated in your membership handbook 'Towing to the
nearest service facility and/or minor on-site labor.' However we would like to assure you that your vehicle would be towed to a
capable place of repair.
When calling for emergency roadside assistance we would request you to inform the customer service representative of any special
equipment that your eligible vehicle or RV requires when it has to be towed and / or repaired."
3) Ken B. noted: "If you do not get satisfaction from Progressive, file a complaint with your home state Insurance commission."
4) Steve F. noted: "Not on your freaking life would I ever go back to Allstate." He detailed his reasons for making this statement.
5) Bill B. noted that the Good Sam contractor towed his GMC from the rear which caused problems which "will likely end up in court."
State Farm reimbursed him for the extra charges he paid to get it towed to Tom Hampton's shop.
6) Andy M. noted that he has Allstate RV Road Help and the three times he's used it the services were satisfactory.
7) Wesley C. noted that he has AAA RV Towing and despite some difficulties that he "Will still stay with them."
8) Gary K. noted that on two occasions State Farm Insurance has reimbursed him for two expensive tows, $455 & $1230.
9) John S. noted: Be sure the tow provider rep knows that the vehicle to be towed GMC is a front wheel drive GMC Motorhome with an
Oldsmobile engine. Even though I told them I needed a wheel lift wrecker capable of lifting 4000# and towing 12000# or a low boy
trailer, they did not relay that information to the wrecker company. The first two wreckers they sent could only use a sling so I
sent them packing.
10) Hal K. noted: The folks on another list I receive (RVK9) swear by Coach-Net. Most of them wouldn't have anybody else. In the two
years or so I've been a member no one has complained about them.
11) Jim H. noted: We signed up for Coach Net through FMCA. Two days after we signed up, we used them for an "on the hook" roadside
service. About a 25 mile tow. They made all the arrangements and found us three possible repair facilities. No out of pocket
expenses, no hassle.
12) Mike K. noted: I have AAA but luckily haven't needed it yet. Make sure you sign up some time before you plan on using it. I
don't remember exactly, but I believe they said it wouldn't take affect until 48 hours after you signed up.
13) A number of people noted that if you are ex US Military USAA insurance is a good option. They provide insurance through
Progressive.
14) Bert & Fay C. noted: Remember to ask Coach Net about their "age policy". When we talked with them last year, they will not cover
coaches (or cars) over 35 years old, which lets out some of our GMCs.

The only time I ran out of gas was on Interstate 65 with 13 miles to next exit with fuel. Within 10 minutes a state highway truck stopped and offered me a ride to the next exit. He told me he was en-route to some place and did not have time to give me a ride back. At the gas station a truck driver saw me filling up the borrowed can and offered me a ride back north to where I was stalled. Through all of this I spent 50 to 60 minutes and I was on my way.
No GPS, no cell phone, No motorclub, Just friendly neighbors who help out other in need. In Indiana the State Police will help with fuel and if you are unable to do it yourself or a woman they will change a tire for you. I guess the difference is the area of the country that you live in.

First off, don't run out of gas again. Someone had to have siophoned your tank.
2nd off, sounds like you were dealing with similar minimum wage people as I was, twice, with Good Sam.
3rd, I dumped them and got Coachnet. Was happy with their service and attention to what I told them.
And, 4th, hope I never need assistance again. But, we drive a 40 year old motorhome.

When we broke down in July, we called AAA, they were there in less than 1/2 hour
with a wrecker large enough to town an 18 wheeler. Put their lift under the
front wheels, towed us back to our driveway with the Harley trailer still
connected to the GMC. We rode in the cab of the wrecker and never knew we were
towing. Absolutely incredible service for our 1st experience needing AAA
assistance.

We broke down 65 miles from home in Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin. We live in
Wauwatosa, a suburb of Milwaukee.
We made the call, they showed up, towed us home. I asked if I had to sign
anything and they said "nope, it's all taken care of".
When we called they said our RV plan allowed up to a 200 mile tow one way.
No additional charges, no paperwork to sigh, nothing. Clean & simple as can be.

Something like Rick's post but with a GOOD ending. Wife's NEON decided staying in 2nd gear was a good idea once it warmed up. After about 10 Miles of driving. Tried to drive it(she was driving it) I was in the GMC(Yukon)) after 10 miles it didn't shift any more . Pulled into an obscure parking lot at the big park south of the Toronto Airport and called CAA. (Canadian Automobile Association) I guess like AAA. They said 45 minutes. Every 10 minutes we received an automated cell phone call to say how much longer. Tow truck arrived in 40 minutes even though we were in a driveway/parking lot with NO name and had no idea of the address of the park. I guess sometimes we get lucky. I'm glad Rick FINALLY received assistance.
P.S. if this was NEXT year we'd take the car to the repair shop on my will be new to me next year Race Car Trailer.
