I have another GMC I am working on that came without a air filter on the carb (quadrajet). There was a air filter in the home that I thought should fit because it accepted a toronado air filter element.
Guess what, the hatch wont go on, to high. Is there two different air filters, one for the toronado and one for the GMC?
Anyway, I NEED a filter, anyone have one I can buy?

Sorry I don't have one however you may have a replacement intake manifold that is not a Toro or GMCMH low rise manifold. If that is the case there may not be any stock type filter housing that will work. Post your problem on the general GMC motor home forum (GMCnet) and someone will be able to help you.

Sir: does your 73 still have the point style dist and coil or has it been updated to HEI. The air filters are different.

I'm not sure if your post to the GMC forum took. I did not see any thread about carb or intake and looking under your profile and did not see any such posting by you under your list of posts.

There are two different air filter housings in the GMC motorhome, one for points distributors and one for HEI distributors. The HEI housng is offset in that the cover hole for the carb attachment is not centered but off center. The points dist top carb attachment hole is centered in the top I believe the base that fits around the carb is also offset for HEI.....I may have both but will need to look

Thanks Michael:
this coach has an HEI and a hose from the front grill up to where the carb snout should be.
If you have a air cleaner it would be appreciated. Let me know please.
The air cleaner I have sits to high. The manifold is a low rise and is stock.
Send me a photo if you can of what you have.

These 455 HEI air cleaners are getting very hard to find because they were only made for a couple of years 76-77. They are not unique to motorhomes or Tornados. They were used on all HEI equipped Oldsmobile 455s regardless of carline. Many have been taken for use on earlier coaches and cars for HEI conversions. I have one but it would be $200 plus postage. An alternative might be to run a K&N conical filter with a Jeep snorkel from one of the last carburetor equipped Jeeps. A carb spacer of about 4 inches would also be required for this setup along with a long hose and related brackets.

What year and what engine for the GMC? Also, HEI or point ignition? Makes a diffference. HEI ign. has hole offset in the air cleaner top where points ign. top has hole in the center for attaching to the base.
I may have the one you need...........Michael at GEMRECS
