Looks pretty good, considering. Chain saw, good battery, maybe a can of
gas & it could be on the road again! (can't see whether the tires are
inflated). :-)

There were a pair of Grumman Tigers parked at the Michigan City, Indiana airport that looked the same. Trees had grown up around them and the owner refused to sell them. Finally a major hangar construction for a new business forced their move. So they got out the chain saws and went to town. I do not know where they went but I'm sure they did not fly out of there.

Yes, but it could be one of the Corian-like plastics. But I don't think
it's in the "tree machine".

That's a shame - that's a nice little airplane.  I have some time in an AA-4, and a bunch in the AA-1A and B.... fighter in a paper sack, someone called it.  If you ever feel inclined to investigate why the AA-1A is placarded against intentional spins, take one out, get a LOT of air under you, and spin it.  It is an 'E ticket' ride for fair.  The AA-4 was fairly docile in a spin, I'd expect the Tiger to be much the same.

I owned an AA1 for many years and I now own an AA5A. I have had the AA5A for at least 20 years. "Intentional Spins Prohibited" is because the AA1 and AA1A fuel tanks are in the center of the tubular spar. Spin it and all of the fuel goes to the ends of the wings.

If I remember correctly, from the requirements for certification for light single engine, the aircraft has to be recoverable from a worst case spin, or it will not be certificated in the 'normal' or 'utility' categories.  If it recovers from a spin within three (I think) turns with no pilot input save neutralizing the controls and idling the engine, it need not be placarded.  If pilot input is required to recover from the spin, then it must be placarded "Intentional spins prohibited".   I've never flown an AA-1 (original wing) only the cuffed version, AA-1A and B.  I'd expect the uncuffed wing to be a bit more frisky in the spin, if that's possible.  I can tell you from having done it, the AA-1A >does<  require pilot input, and it wants to be accurate.  I don't think I want the power on in a spin anyhow.

I do not think our GMCs can be certificated as airworthy in any category, although JimK's might concievably make 'Experimental'
