Well, we finally did it. After six months of lurking here, four months of checking the Internet “For Sale” sites, a couple of thousand miles of driving to check out coaches and having to show up at the Western States Rally towing our Airstream trailer, we are finally the proud owners of a 1978 Eleganza II, TZE168V0101307. 53,000 original miles, original interior and paint but has always been stored under cover and is one of the best looking and best running original coaches we have seen. Alcoas, one year-old tires, and headers with 3” stainless steel exhaust. Permanent queen bed in the back, newer radio with a CD player, a newer low-profile air conditioner, day/night window coverings, a like-new awning and a large storage pod in very good condition. Now I need to build a shelter so she can remain under cover.

Welcome aboard. Sounds like you did all your reasearch first and you ended up with one of the "newest" coaches with a GM fit interior and all the improvements. By the way is it EL1 or ELII on the Electrolevel system? Just curious.

On behalf of everyone here, it’s clear you show rare wisdom and intelligence in your choice of motorhome ;~)
It sounds like you’ve really found a nice one - now how about some pictures? I’ve very greedy when it comes to pictures!

I believe it should be an Electrolevel II system but The switch plate just says "Electrolevel". If I find it's an ELI I'll let you know.

Daryl,
Welcome to the group/family/cult/asylum....
If you have been reading long, then you are aware that this coach will become more a part of your life than you may now anticipate. As it seems more like the connection a waterman (like me) has to his boat, I like to greet new owners as I might in my own world. So, I offer you this:
May the Good Lord bless this coach and all those that set forth within her.
Welcome Daryl and co.

And we occasionally get to Carson City to see my son and his family. Let us know when you're in the area. We'll try to do the same.

This might be heresy, but why dump the Airstream?. I am so mechanically challenged that I've thought maybe a trailer would be the way for me to go. I don't think I'll ever have the ability to keep an old motorhome on the road. ???

Well, the Airstream is only 20 feet and the more time you spend in it the smaller it gets. More important is that I need to have a vehicle capable of towing it and that means my daily driver, a GMC Envoy, only gets 15mpg, 11.5 towing. Granted the GMC only gets 10mpg or less but it's parked most of the time and I can have a daily driver that gets 30mpg or more.
The Airstream has been fun. I've had it for 15 years and my father had it for 12 or so before that (it's a 1975). I spent one whole summer stripping off the clear-coat and polishing it. When my son found I was looking for a GMC he let me know he'd like to have the Airstream so it will stay in the family.
Interestingly, the GMC is only six feet longer than the Airstream and most of that 6 feet is in the cab but because of the openness and all the windows it feels much larger. Plus, with the bed in the back we won't have to make up the bed every day as we did in the Airstream.

Sounds like you have a very nice coach Daryll. If you have EL ll, there will be 2 pumps under the electrical cabinet on the driver's side as well as electronic height sensors. Late 78's have EL ll. Congratulations!!
