So, what do you do when you have a GMC Motorhome? Why, get another one, of course! I picked up a 76 Palm Beach today from a wonderful couple just outside Madison. The tires were total toast, so I put my 73 up on blocks to take those wheels down there. A couple hours in the blazing sun trying not to get heat stroke and the wheels were switched. Tho old ones loaded up into the motorhome and carefully ignoring the equally shot air bags, I headed home with just a brief stop to down a couple rehydration IPA's in Sauk.
And the (new) adventure begins...
Cheers

Yeah, not sure about the not crazy part Very Happy
But this sure is the best of both worlds: I get to drive and camp in one and restore the other! My plan is to complete what i started on the 73 (it's all about the journey...) and sell when I'm done.
Or not. Might have to use it while I "freshen up" the 76. I don't know.
BTW, I bet you know the gentleman I bought this from. He was (is) a big Corvair guy too. Names Everett.
Cheers

I know how you feel; I had 4 at one time; now down to two; one is mine and
other is my daughters, which I bought in 2005 with her money for her when
she was in Iraq for 5.5 years (and I did/do all the improvements and
maintenance, except for what Jim Hupy did several years ago and Manny T
installing his one ton front end system). She has an early 73 23' Painted
Desert #241 with custom oak interior cabinets and doors (did by the
previous owner) and I did the improvements, like adding an Onan generator
with remote start, new fridge, four bags, electric windshield wipers, Ramco
powered mirrors, new low profile A/C, new Fantastic fans, used Honda middle
seats for the driver and passenger, new range top, new tank monitoring
system, new propane/electric water heater, can't remember what else. She
has a very nice coach now (still original paint too). However, no
awnings. Also put a new 455 in, bought from Jim B and Jasper in 2005.
Have a Howell FI system for her, bought in the group buy in 2007, but will
probably never install it (I'm getting too old).

JR Wheeler 78 Royale (with almost all the same stuff as my daughters
coach, except I have the Howell FI with EBL and electronic distributor. My
coach has been sitting for 4 years, never started and I will probably be in
trouble for having letting it sit so long.

Wow that sounds like she has a sweet ride! Gotta get the next bunch of GMCers up to speed so our coaches can keep on going. Us olders can't drive them forever (allegedly).

I just ordered new bags for the 76. It was a risk driving it home with the bags that are on it, but I got away with it. Once that is done this thing seems really ready to go. This is pretty unusual for things I buy (ie: POS's that need much work).
Cheers
