G'day,

I have a Patterson 455 Stage II engine that came out of a coach that burned to the beltline I will be assembling while I'm in the
USA this year. I was looking at the Eastwood paint link that Fred provided and decided to go with the metallic blue.

While on the Eastwood site I stumbled on to something even better:

https://www.eastwood.com/eastwood-hi-temp-internal-exhaust-coating-w-nozzle.html

I'm going to order a couple of cans of this product as well along with:

https://www.eastwood.com/factory-gray-hi-temp-coating.html

and the metallic engine paint:

https://www.eastwood.com/eastwood-ceramic-engine-paint-olds-455-blue-quart.html

Rob,

The Eastwood looks to be the correct paint, but it is why my engine is Duplicolor 1608. I also painted as part instead of the finished assembly. That means I would have been mixing and painting one day a week on a good week.

Would I have like to use that paint - Yes.

I almost painted the engine parts red (long story - maybe at a rally), but it would not have gone well with the coach colors.

Matt,

I've watched a zillion of the custom auto shows like Kindig Customs, RMD, Fast & Loud, etc. and they all paint completely assembled
engines which is the way I'll paint mine.

Better yet paint it when it’s hot and the paint will lay out/stay on
better.

But,

I really don't like painted hoses and belts.
The fact that that is what most manufactures do not withstanding.

Matt,

I've NEVER seen any of the shows paint belts and hoses!

The engines are fully assembled and the appropriate holes are plugged and the areas where they don't want paint are masked off; i.e.
carb mounting flange, exhaust port flange(s), pulley groves, rear of engine where the bell housing attaches, etc.

Mate, as far as I'm concerned only an idiot would paint belts and hoses!

"... only an idiot would paint belts and hoses! "

Unfortunately any of the heavy equipment auctions I have attended, just
about everything was painted including the dash instruments...That's how we
spruce up a 1985 CAT grader here in NS .

Mike,

I attended the Barrett-Jackson collector car auction at the Mohegan Sun Casino (Uncaseville, CT) in 2016 and looked over many
vehicles and none of them had painted hoses or bets.

As a matter of fact I'm heading up here next week to attend this years auction and I'll check this years offerings.

Here's a link to the car I bought at the 2016 B-J auction:

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/more-toys/p64880-img-7697.html

As far as the guys sprucing up heavy equipment goes all I can say is; "if the shoe fits, wear it" or is it "fill your hat" in
Canada?

Since my coach is far from a Concours restoration, rather more of a 'restomod' I settled for Duplicolor GM Blue:

< https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/duplicolor-engine-enamel-with-ceramic-general-motors-blue-12-oz-de1608/7140888-p?c3ch=PLA&c3nid=7140888-P& adtype=pla_with_promotion&gclid=Cj0KCQjw6pLZBRCxARIsALaaY9Y3KLivQwcoWEr1PKApFrnfpHBAvc77GvpEn1tgWcaZK9gXuQ_eqCMaAkACEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds>

Not quite the original metallic Oldsmobile Blue, but good enough.

link to that thread with more paint details: http://gmc.mybirdfeeder.net/GMCforum/index.php?t=msg&th=40950&start=0&rid=0

that internal exhaust coating has a 90 day defect warranty, might have to try it on a bike exhaust using the infrared heat monitor on it before and after. experiment with clear tubing to figure the right spray technique first.

if it works as advertised it could very useful for sure.

Nice purchase...pick up a 1/2 dozen guys and I'll get a couple of
24's....We're going on tour !

I've never seen painted belts or hoses on anything except on the very heavy
equipment here in NS. Those painter boys seem to "fill their boots" .

Where do you keep the Chrysler ?

If you paint the belts and hoses you also do not get a full coverage on the
parts of the motor obscured by them. Block with heads, oil pan and intake
installed is a clean way to go. Anyone who blows the belts and hoses is a
hack.

Mike,

The bikes are in Sydney already and the T&C has a few items out being chromed and as soon as they are done it will be transported to
Houston where I will drive it for a week or two then it will get packed in a container and sent on it's way to Sydney.

When I gets there it will be the ONLY 1946 Town & Country in Australia according to the Chrysler Restorers Club of Australia.

The only hang up on the shipment is I need the Australian Border Force to approve the Asbestos Certificate which provides details as
to what components were sampled, what testing method was used and that the results were all negative.

Thanks Rob. I wish I could take credit for it, but I hired this build out. If I HAD done it myself, that's the way I would have done it. My mechanic friend knows this, that's why he went the extra mile on the detail for me. I did all the R&R work with the same attention to detail.
