Not a great deal, but in range. 6010 craigslist ads are getting fairly rare here in the southeast. Those I do see run from $600 to $1000 --sometimes $1200, but usually with higher hours. Be sure to ask for the muffler, if available.

I would source a newer inverter set if I were to do it again.
The EV6010 has a LOT of praise around here, but frankly I am not happy with the noise. Everyone says "it's not louder than the Onan just a different sound because it's 3600 rpm".

Bull crap. The EV6010 sounds like a lawnmower at max rpm at all times. The only time it's tolerable is when you're driving. The Onan is considerably quieter. Also the noise comes from the fan and the engine itself, so muffler changes don't much do anything.

You will find that all the small inverter gensets run at 3600 rpm. No easy way out. A well insulated genset compartment will keep the noise level down. Also, you really need to add a flexible mounting pad between the genset and the frame of the vehicle. If you open up one of the Honda small inverter gensets, you will notice typical Honda attention to detail, vibration isolation and noise reduction. Heathen Chinese sets skimp on these non-visible items.
Honda's water cooling system also adds to noise reduction.
Yes, I can hear it run, but with roof air running, you have competing noise levels.
I think that $1200 is a very fair price. Put load on it while running before you finalize the deal. A known good rebuild is about $2500 on the low end and $5000+ on the high end. I paid $5000 to have two rebuilt by Pinallas.

If an inverter set runs at 3600, you get the worst of both worlds - a fixed high speed engine, but you can't take advantage of the inertia in the engine for startup loads because of the inverter in the way. The whole idea is for the engine speed to match the load, as in the Ryobi and a couple of others we had. The surge capability of an inverter set is limited to the current capacity of the devices switching the DC it produces. My take on the Honda EV series is they're well put together, but overly complex and expensive due to being liquid cooled. They make more noise than my Onan or the variable speed Junkerac I had, marginally less than the heathen chinee Harbor Freight one I replaced it with. You pays your money and you takes your choice.

The heathen chinee set I put in the 23' had the same vibration as it did in its contractor clothes, using the same isolation mounts. It wasn't onerous. Had I kept the coach I could have gotten the noise level down at least to Onan spec, the bulk of it was from the intake and the air filter needed relocating anyway - it would have been quite easy to make a silencer for it. The muffler was remoted to the back bumper and sent what little exhaust noise there was out the rear. This left a whirring noise from the three fans - one engine, one alternator and one electric I mounted on the bay door. I suspect a bit of damped baffling would quiet them as well. As installed it wasn't a problem to sleep with it and the roof A/C running in a rear bath coach, had it stayed here I could have gotten it to the A/C noise only.

My Generac is like most inverter generators--it maintains engine speed at
minimum value to generate the required power. I suspect 3600 is the top
end, only when being asked to generate all 3600 watts. I hear that only
when running the AC and water heater at the same time (3300 watts for those
two plus whatever the converter is drawing)--something I only do for deep
exercise. With just the AC, it's noticeably less. Mine makes significantly
less noise outside the coach than Ken's Troy-Bilt, but it's right under the
bed and one does both hear and feel it. It's really no noisier than the
Onan, and certainly doesn't vibrate more.

Despite that Ken believes he led me down the garden path with that Generac,
and despite that I did have to replace the shaft speed sensor at only 70
hours, I'm happy with it, considering the alternatives. An automatic
transfer switch that delays switching until the generator stabilizes (about
30 seconds) was very good for the Generac.

One used to have to pay a quarter to get a vibrating bed.

I'm not sure its any louder. My big thing is that the Honda is not worn out and is dependable. I can deal with a little noise but not the noise that happens when we stop for lunch and its 90 degrees and the AC won't work because the Onan is being fussy. Life is too short.

Personally, $1200 for a good running Honda that doesn't smoke strikes me as a good deal.

Kerry, that's why I installed the Generac. Too many life-minutes being
devoted to the troll, and even when it worked, it covered the back third of
the coach with a sheen of oil. Not that that really made the coach look any
worse, of course. After removing it, I also no longer listed to port--the
Onan weighed fully four times what the Generac weighs.

I bet the Honda is also just a fraction of the weight of the Onan 6K Power
Drawer.

As much as I dislike the noise, it does start and run reliably and I don't have to worry about it or tinker with it like the Onan. That's worth it right there.
I'm just saying if I were doing it again if still get rid of the Onan, but spend a little more on something a little more modern and quiet.

I was really just disappointed that everything I read here said it was nice and quiet. I think everyone spent the money and just wanted to make themselves feel better by validating that. Of all the words I'd use to describe it (convenient, reliable, Honda) quiet or pleasant are not on the list.

Justin,

You were disappointed because you relied on "OPO" - Other People's Opinions
regarding the noise level.

While it's a moot point (Honda's out of production) it would be nice to have
some hard data regarding the sound levels produced by the various units,
does anyone have access to sound measuring equipment?

If not anyone willing to buy this unit:

Honda ev series weighs about 1/2 the weight of Onan. Interesting that Honda specs show the ev4010 weighs a bit more than the ev6010 and is about 1" taller.
Mine may be a bit quieter because of a custom exhaust system. Muffler is mounted on the passenger side, exhausting behind the OEM tailpipe.

Rob, I have an app for my iPhone that not only measures sound pressure
level, but provides real-time spectrum analysis. Lots cheaper than a
hardware device, especially for such a limited application. Should be
useful, given that the differences are reported as being sensitive to the
frequency. Maybe in Elkhart, we can conduct a test.
