So a friend sends me a link to a local on-line only auction. I ended up winning all the lots I bid on. In it was a 75 Avion that is missing the dash and steering column but is in nice shape inside. Rear twin DAVO's...never seen that before and side dry bath with a shower door that looks to be about 14" wide...LOL. Original paint but new windshields. The deceased owner was named Turner and attended the GMCMI rally in Niagra Falls back in 94. His son said he drove it all over the country before he pulled it in his barn for a total restoration. So it was stored inside until the auction company pulled it out this month. The coach mechanicals are in unknown condition. The motor has chrome valve covers and looks to have been taken care of.
I also won a unused rebuilt tranny that was built by AAMCO in 94 and still has the paper AAMCO tag. I also got a spare complete 455 with all accessories but unknown condition although the motor does turn over and is clean. I didn't think to see if it has a Toronado oil pan.
I BELIEVE the steering column and dash is in a pile that is in the corner and comes with the coach. Also got about 5 sets of aftermarket seats (3rd row seats with armrests)as well as the original seats. Oh and a BRAND new set of 6 Alcoa wheels with BRAND new Michelin tires dated 2001 (!!!) I believe the wheels/tires are spoken for. If not I'll post them.
A good day. Now to get everything home and see what all is there. The coach is going to have to come home on a flatbed. I know there is also a bunch of upholstery material and some other stuff like a Ragusa pan for the tranny.

Probably does. I'm pretty sure I saw them in one of the lots. Don't know the condition yet.

Kerry, sounds like you have the ingredients for a pub crawl/wine tour/rally
activity transport vehicle. Put all those 3rd row seats in, upholster the
rest of it, and party on!!!!.

Rob, it's the couch that folds up into a bunk bed. The Avion has facing couches that fold up int bunks. Different from the GMC Davo a bit in the mechanism but still the back flips up and hangs from the ceiling on straps on one side and is supported by the mechanism on the other.

Does this Avion have the night stand between the beds as well?

Colloquial for "Davenport", a rather dated synonym for sofa, couch, etc.
My mother (born 1911) ALWAYS referred to our sofa as the davenport.
It MAY have been a northeastern term, possibly from England.

Even here in Georgia, "davenport" was the generic name for a sofa (which
word I don't remember ever hearing as a kid).

Davenport was the name of a series of sofas made by the Massachusetts furniture manufacturer A. H. Davenport and Company, now defunct. Due to the popularity of the furniture at the time, the name davenport became a genericized trademark.
My mother in Michigan always called any couch she had a “Davenport”.

The Massachusetts origination probably explains where my mother got the name since dad was from the Boston area!

I've wondered about the origin of the term "davo" before too. Regardless of the origin, it's the term used for a sofa that converts to bunk beds as labeled on the GMC floor plans posted on Billy Massey's site:
http://www.bdub.net/Floor_Plans.pdf
Davo may be an abbreviation of "Davenport", but I ran across another possible origin. Davoplane Bed Company was the name of a Chicago based company with a patented a sofa-bed design. Their design wasn't for a sofa back that converted it to a bunk, but it was for a folding mechanism to convert a sofa to a bed.
https://books.google.com/books?id=QI2QAAAAMAAJ&pg=PA303&dq=Davo-plane+Bed+Co+sofa-bed+chicago+Illinois&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwifo7- qjubSAhWJ6yYKHXgvAzIQ6AEIITAB#v=onepage&q=Davo-plane%20Bed%20Co%20sofa-bed%20chicago%20Illinois&f=false
