G'day,

For those of you concerned with the discussion of the hex socket blowing out and the location of the torsion bar hex in the control
arm socket I submit the following.

In an earlier email I noted that the torsion bar should be installed hard up against the rear of the cross member that the pork chop
is located in, that was incorrect.

Reference MM X-7525 / Section 3A - Front Suspension / Page 3A-19 - Torsion Bar and / or Crossmember Support - Installation

Step 1. Apply a liberal amount of chassis grease to both ends.

Step 7. / Torsion bars should be through the and flush with rear face of the adjusting arm (AKA pork chop).

Back in 2008 some eighty thousand miles ago I installed a set of Steve Ferguson's reinforced lower control arms and Dave Lenzi's
hubs and knuckles in Double Trouble. I did NOT read the manual first and figgered the best thing to do was pull the torsion bars up
hard up against the crossmember as I noted in my earlier email. However; I did coat both ends of the torsion bars with liberal
amounts of moly grease. I'd bet that there even now there is grease between the end of the torsion bar and the crossmember. Also the
pork chop doesn't move nor does the end of the torsion bar so I can't see a wear problem. The only problem I have created is the
torsion bars are a tiny bit too far to the rear which doesn't matter as Steve extends the hex socket reinforcement which is visible
on the "outside" of the lower control arm to the "inside."

Below is a link to a presentation Steve gave back in 2003 entitled "Getting Your GMC Under Control." It provides incredible details
on all the problems associated with the front end and shows the problems he has seen through the years reinforcing lower control
arms.

Scroll through it and you'll learn everything you ever wanted to know about lower control arms.

BTW I reworked the lower control arms on The Blue Streak here in Sydney using this document and his assistance via emails and phone
calls.
