The oil pan is wrong for a GMC. The one in the picture is for a
non-eldorado.

Does that mean other oil pans will not bolt on?

No. The Eldorado pan for a 500 cubic inch engine should fit. The front
timing cover and engine mounting plate from the Eldorado will also be
needed, along with the half shaft and mounting plate for the shaft will be
needed as well. Lots of info about this swap is available from bdub and
other sources like GMCMI.

David,

The only difference between the Eldo and the RWD motors
is the oil pan, oil pump pickup and the dipstick tube.
Oh yes, also the left exhaust manifold.

Gary, I have a big block Eldo engine complete with transmission and final
drive. It is an early production engine that I salvaged from a wrecking
yard. The front timing cover and mounting plate for the motor mounts is
different than a cad passenger car. I just took that to mean that all
eldorados were similar. Must be a year model difference on mine. Sorry if I
added to the confusion instead of clarification.

Jim,

I'll admit you've got me faked out. It's late and cold outside, so I don't
want to got out to the shop where my Parts Book is, but I think the
timing cover is all the same from '68 to '76. It did change on the '77 and
later motors. The '68 to '72 Eldo had a single front lower mount which
what is needed for GMC installation. In '73 they went to side mounts in
the front with a single center rear mount for the Eldo.
The '68 & '69 Eldo were 472s and had a different casting number on
the right rear of the block. And the '70 to '76 Eldo all had the same
block.
