I have found that my transmission is missing what Applied calls an Inspection Plate Cover. On page 17-3 of the parts manual it is 390042 Plug, case. Not being a mechanic or playing one on TV (although I seem to pretend around old RV's) is this part necessary to keep debris from a critical area? I have driven this from Georgia to Oregon and I don't think I had it from the start. I am wondering how important it is and whether I need to do something right away.

Thanks,

If you've got one, install it. (If it's convenient.)

If you don't have one, forget it.

If you pay attention to the mounting method, you'll see that they weren't
very serious about it. :-)

First thanks to everyone who responded. Since Manny doesn't worry about them, I don't have one, and they are $35 used from Applied, I will ignore it for now. If I come across one, I'll put it on.

Thanks again.

This sounds like a great project for someone with a 3-D printer.

I used a round electrical cover plate for the transmission inspection hole for years. It worked fine until I happened to find the original in my spare parts.

Something like this from Home Depot:
