The house batteries I purchased in 2002 are starting to show some deterioration. What I have are a pair of 6 volt Interstate batteries with the part number U2200.

My local dealer is telling me that the replacement Interstate is GC2-XHDUTL.

Is this replacement battery being used by others here? Comments appreciated. Thanks

I just replaced a pair of five year old interstate 6 volts. Got the new ones from Costco where i got the originals from. GC-2 batteries with a 210 amp reserve capacity.

I use the GC2's as well. They seem to be working just fine.
I went with the one's from Sam's Club, they are Duracell Brand made by Deka.

Sam’s club offers 2 batteries that work well with our coaches.

The Size GC2
http://www.samsclub.com/sams/duracell-golf-car-battery-group-size-gc2/prod3590228.ip
and the Size 230
http://www.samsclub.com/sams/duracell-golf-car-battery-group-size-egc2/prod3590220.ip

They are both 6 VDC and the second one listed has a little more bang for the buck. I have used both in the coaches that I have owned with no problems. I got 8 years out of the first set. The pricing is reasonable for both and you can find other 6VDC batteries from other sources such as Trojan and Interstate. They both can be a little pricey.

I have experienced battery from most USA manufacturers and found them to
be very good.
Keep in mind, never store a battery half charged as they will sulfate and
it will not perform very well after that. The Deep cycle batteries takes
longer time to fully charge, maybe just my feeling.

You got it right, Jim...if it takes longer to discharge a battery then it also takes longer to recharge it.

When I bought my coach about a month ago I replaced all three batteries.
They were all interstate brand batteries from Costco. Mind you, the coach
ran fine with the existing batteries, but they were old and I'm in the
desert and heat kills batteries. So I pulled all three and went back to
Costco. I was able to get a credit on the main battery, and to my surprise
on the deep cycle golf cart house batteries. It's for that reason that I
would recommend buying your batteries at Costco if you are near one.

I've also heard good things about Optima brand batteries and believe the
blue top variety is marketed for RV and marine use.

Good luck.

John,

I am a big fan of all AGM batteries. A rolled cell AGM is just the best starting battery ever made for diesel boats.

Unfortunately, in a house bank, the name of the game is Ampere-Hours. This is where the rolled (or spiral wound) cell AGMs fall down. You also may have noticed that neither Optima or Orbital have 6V packages for golf cart service. There is a reason.

My experience is that most sellers do not offer any more than a 1 year warranty on a 6 volt deep cycle battery. No prorating on them either. Maybe some of the more premium brands, like Trojan do, but I know the interstates I just got from Costco have a 1 year free replacement warranty only. They have a 3 year free replacement then prorated warranty on their other automotive batteries.

Carl - that was my experience at Costco as well. The batteries I was
turning in were 5-year warranty. I was bummed to hear that the new
batteries would only be covered for 1-year.

I'll second the Duracell GC2 above, we've had ours for 3 years and counting, they are excellent so far (two of them hooked in series), and at Sam's the price is right. I also keep a BatteryMinder (the charger and desulfator) hooked to them when the coach is parked and not in use. I've had excellent results using BatteryMinders on all of our automotive, marine, tractor batteries over the years so I figured it can't hurt. I was skeptical when I first started using them 5-6 years ago, however I've had our automotive batteries reach 13 years when it finally weakened, and have a couple others approaching 12 years now and they are still running strong. There are other products out there but I would only get a charger that is also a desulfator.
