Hello again,
1) what does SOB stand for in GMC speak?
2) having seen the problems that leaks caused in our coach that has to be
gutted because of them, and being sensitive to mold that leaks bring over
time, I intend that we seal anything we put on the roof with Dicor self
leveling lay sealent, but if there is something better, please let us
know. Our real estate agent told me that she got pneumonia because of mold
exposure..... it is not to be trifled with.
3) that refurbished coach is fabulous and it looks worth every penny to me
as well... I hope ours is as nice when it is completed. Does anyone know
who did the renovations? I hope all goes well for the family that has to
sell it....
4) does anyone use solar panels on top of the coach successfully, or have
any experience with solar in a GMC? Or maybe a portable solar system that
can be brought out when conditions are right? It sure looks like it is a
good idea to my untrained eye...
Your thoughts?

2 the main reasons for leaks are clogged drains in the window channels. Also the seams at the caps and marker light gaskets are high on the list. If you need to kill mold use ammonia ( never bleach). Also letting the coach breath is important. I usually run the bath fan at all times when on shore power and leave a window cracked for makeup air. On the road I run the dash system at all times to bring in fresh air on fan speed 2 minimum . Usually on cool days on Vent where you can add warmth as neede When AC is needed I avoid the Max or Rec mode to keep positive air pressure in the building (coach) keeping exhaust and holding tank odors away.

Some Other Brand unless the guy in the SOB just cut you off, then he's a regular SOB. My coach has two solar panels and a controller which keep the house battery charged. Works fine.

Using solar panels
2 x 45 Wp. Mppt. Charger and 280Ah of batteries can charge 7 A on a sunny day
This is 2 small panels, but we dont use much electricitie. It keeps us going most of the time, but 10 days of clouded weather and we need a sockert somwhere. We do not have a generator

I did this:

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/g6227-solar-battery-charging.html

I plan to add a 55 watt panel on the rear AC in the near future. I have about $600.00 into the system. Works great.

We just spent the last six days off grid and were very happy with the results of our solar panels. We have two 140 watt Kyrocia panels with a pair of 6 volt 232 amp hr batteries. 'She' ran the satellite TV in the evenings for four or five hours and we ran the heater every night here in the Quartzsite desert where we have been seeing mid to high 30 degree nights. All lights are led's which draw very little power which is great help. The coffee pot is small draw in the morning as well as her hair drier which are handled nicely by the Magnum 1000 watt true sine inverter. I never saw the batteries below 12.3 volts and never saw more than 10.4 amps delivered by the panels. Overall, very happy.

Nancy, a dehumidifier is a worthwhile investment. I keep mine running whenever the coach is just sittin' around.
