I'm in the process of assembling all the various parts and piece stripped from my 75 Palm Beach.
Anyone discover an easy to find drawer slide that replaces the originals? Have been to all the local big box stores with no results.

I also ended up replacing the EHM6-SM electric water heater with another like it. Decided that hacking up the drivers side for the on-demand really did not make that much sense. Space is at premium and it all got pretty simple once I pulled out the myriad of plastic and pex out of the coach. Seems no one had replaced anything in all these years, just added more and more, while wrapping the interior of the coach with pex. It was everywhere. Not replacing the city pressure side.. just going to fill the tank and use the shurflo to pressurize. Have a brand new Atwood on demand if I change my mind.

If you are looking for the stock drawer guides, look for a GMC parts coach. Since you are in California, l would expect that JmK's place would be a good start. I'm not familiar with any modern replacement, but that does not mean they do not exist.
Might try your creative mind and go to Ikea and see their drawer slides.

You should look at the side mounts. My drawers had plenty of space on the sides of the drawers for them. Get the full extension ones and also the ones that stay in place when the drawer is closed. These involve slightly lifting the drawer front when opening the drawer but they prevent the drawers from sliding out when driving without the use of any type of latch. I bought mine at Home Depot.

Tom,

Those are a standard drawer slide that are normally used on the side of the
drawer. GM used them on the bottom so they could stamp
a little dingus that allowed the drawer to latch in the closed position. A
bunch of years ago, I had a friend make a fixture to stamp the
little dingus in the standard slide. I made up a batch of them, but they
were a slow seller. I lost track of the fixture and lost interest in
the project. It's not a good set-up as the slides were not designed to be
used in that position. Bob Burkitt made a better arrangement
using a slider on both sides of the drawer. But, you have to make
provisions to keep the drawers closed. Always a big problem!

Wouldn't any of the 'slow close' drawer slides work to keep them closed? I
have used these for other full extension side mount applications.

These types of slides need a little 'pull' to open. I haven't looked for a
manufacturer or model, but I put these in our kitchen 8 years ago to
replace worn slides.

Will depend on the amount of stuff in the drawers. Most of my drawers
have way too much stuff in to be kept closed by the soft-close mechanism.

I can answer that. No. I put Blum soft close drawer glides on my under sofa drawers thinking they would hold the drawers closed, but the first time I drove it, they came open on the first left turn. I had to install latches to keep them closed. Like Peer said (above) it might depend on how much weight you have in the drawers, but most likely the weight of the drawer it's self will cause them to open on a turn.

I had mentioned in my email yesterday that one has to use latching side mounted drawer slides. The full extension ones are best.

You can easily find them by doing an internet search. Search for “latching drawer slides” or “RV drawer slides”.

Here are just a few that I found. There are many more.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/RV-drawer-slides-locking-tab-3-4-ext-100-lbs-18-/270339013145

The ebay one I list is very inexpensive and it has a locking tab that requires one to slightly lift the front of the drawer to open it.
I am not sure if those are full extension though.

You can search on Amazon for travel lock drawer slides and come up with various options.

Thank You EVERYONE. I have been doing the "work" thing and not had time for what's important,(GMC) grin..

I think I will end up eventually putting the full "stay closed" KV 8400RV https://www.knapeandvogt.com/content/8400rv
but quickly ordered the Accuride 1029-119, for it actually looks close to the exact replacement for the under drawer center mount slide currently installed. They will show up later this week and I will call Grand Rapids to see which mounting bracket for which slide on the KV's.
All the drawers are 19". The 7"X20" drawers (x3) have a 19 3/4" rear mounting depth while the galley 6"x16"(x2) drawers have a 20 1/2" mounting depth.
Have to go mount the new water heater and play with my new PEX crimp tools. grin..

Thanks again,

Jack
