Good afternoon guys from a cold and rainy Santa Teresa, N.M..
Coach should be coming back to my shop and I would like to install an
electric fuel pump. What is the best Carter pump to use. Coach has a
455 olds engine
Thanks
Marcel

I used a pair of Carter 4070's. One for each tank. Mounted on the back of the cross member just forward of the tanks.

I believe the 4070 is widely used by the group.

Thanks Glenn !!

I'm planning on the exact same setup... eventually.

I assume you've completely eliminated the mechanical fuel pump - correct ??

And... what kind of filters are those ??

Thanks again,

Steve,

The filters are from Summit Racing. Model SUM-G1507. The mechanical pump has been removed. I used one way valves at the output of each pump to prevent any backflow but they may be unnecessary. The pumps themselves may take care of that. I retained the original transfer switch but added a relay as the switch has only SPST contacts. Can send a diagram if interested.

Carter P4070. If you are installing it in line with the mechanical pump, then get Jim K's bypass kit.

I usually install the 4070 with a by-pass hose and include a check valve in
the by-pass. The thinking here is that the 4070, due to it's internal
valving, is a bit restrictive, (a couple of psi worth), and the by-pass
hose helps with that pressure drop when the pump is not running. Just what
I do.

Mr. Gasket and its clone. A bit cheaper, and a built in check valve. Just
don't use the supplied filter, use the Wix sub. It's now out in a house

My experience with the Carter pump is that it is very restrictive when one
tries to pull fuel through the pump as it is vain driven. I have been using
that style pump since 1995.

I installed a P4070 once without the bypass check valve and it did not go well. It would run out of gas in the carb when I accelerated heavily and the electric pump was turned off. I added a check valve bypass and took care of the problem.

Jim K. at Applied GMC has everything that you need in one kit. He has, or at least had, one of them ready to go on his table at the GMCMI rally yesterday.

Both the Carter and the MR Gasket pumps are rotary vane type. Both work well. The Carter makes more noise, but only marginally so, and at the back of the copach you won't notice it. In thwe ratrod pickup, I notice it.
