Are the plastic Rhino Ramps that are the gray color and rated at 12,000 lbs. really safe for raising the front end of a GMC coach?

I found a set of the ramps at a garage sale and they would seem to be perfect for doing oil changes and most any other maintenance under the front of the coach.

I've never used plastic ramps but they look to be quite well made.

Any thoughts or guidance please.

The Rhino Ramps work for me. I have used them for oil changes and exhaust system replacement on my GMC. They do not seem to have suffered any damage from the GMC's weight.
They have a small rubber pad on the bottom that is "supposed" to keep them from sliding. I had to secure the pads with metal screws to keep them from falling out and being misplaced.
Use a spotter, and do not drive off the other end. Heck of a racket when you do.
Pretty handy to have around.
Right now they are holding up my Tracker, while I work on it's exhaust system.

If you are sure of the weight rating of the ramps and the vehicle axle weight is less than that, then at least you will be able to sue the manufacturer if a ramp fails and they are still in business Laughing . If I was testing them, I would do it on a nice level surface like asphalt or concrete, but not polished smooth, so the ramps grip the surface. Measure them before and after, see if they spread, and tell us all about it!

Any doubts about getting under there? Put some stands in strategic locations and be sure and chock the other axles.

They are fine but be carefull driving off them since you can eject them from under the wheels and send them flying!

Ya Bob, I launched one 25 feet once. Once you get to the incline of the
ramp, put tranny in neural and just coast down. Eventually my Rino ramps
broke apart.

Thomas Phipps ...get out of my trash folder and stay out !! You're the
only guy on this GMC net that insists on hanging out in there and I'm
getting tired of relocating you to your proper location. As often as I
move you into my 'inbox' off you go back in with society’s rubbish. Shame,
shame...
I'm warning you, I'm going to launch an in depth investigation of your
trash habit!

I busted a brand new set of Rhino ramps with my minivan. I would never use plastic to hold up something I am under. I built a stepped ramp made of a series of layers of 2" boards that can be used either on the front or back. A set of casters on the front allows me to move them a little easier.

Only use the quality of ramps that you think your life is worth.

Seriously? I've had my GMC on those ramps dozens of time. You actually
broke one with a minivan?!

I can't see how that happens. We could use more information on that.
They're rated for 3000 lb each and you know there's a big "safety
factor" in there. The design of those ramps can easily handle the
weight of a GMC.

I wondered the same thing as I was jacking the van up to pull the cracked ramp out from underneath. With plastic there's almost no way to tell it's about to fail until it does. It failed as the van was being put on, not just while it was sitting on the ramp.

Arizona at fault? It's hot in the shade... do you store them in direct
sunlight?
That's the only thing I can think of that would kill Rhino ramps. There
are very few plastics that don't degrade in sunlight.

Kelvin in Oregon - where the sun isn't a big problem...

They were 3 days old. I actually was borrowing them from a kid I helped with his S-10 pickup and this was the 2nd time they had been used. The Autozone guy didn't seemed nearly as concerned as I was. I replaced them for the kid with another set, but warned him of my experience.

I have two sets of them. One at home and one at the airport. I have had them for years and use them often on everything including my GMC (front end only). Mine say "12,000 GVW CAPACITY". Since most vehicles are front heavy in the 60% to 65% range, that tells me that they expect them to handle at least 7,500 pounds for the pair. Even at a 50% ratio that would mean they can hold 6,000 pounds for the pair. My GMC weighs 4,000 of the front so I'm well within specs.

The only complaint I have is they will sometimes slide when driving a rear wheel drive vehicle on them. I have never had a problem with a front or 4 wheel drive vehicle. I have also owned steel ones and these plastic ones are far superior to me.
