I am thinking I should buy a good meter to read DC current.

Something in the 1amp to 40amp range would allow me to use it
on the coach and the new solar system going on my house.

Thoughts on which to buy?

Most good AC clamp meters have an accuracy of around 1%. Most good AC/DC clamp meters have an accuracy of around 2%. If you can live with an accuracy of 3% this is the cheapest one I know of that does DC amps.

Gene,

I bought your plug in version for my SOB; very helpful.

Think it might need some heavy mods to work on my home solar system!

I read somewhere that with meters in this lower price range
that the accuracy is poorest in the 1 to 5 amp range.

Is that correct or is it a weakness across the whole operating range?

RadioShack sells a True-RMS Digital clamp-on Multimeter and it is on sale until 10-28 and it is marked off 33%. Go to radioshack.com and do a search for Catalog#:22-172 and it is model 2200172. Good meter with broad ranges and up to 800 Amps AC or DC. The users manual is also available to read.

I will have to read the reviews, only 2 stars.

And good reviews here on same model. Interesting.
