I found a company that will make them just like the original. I'm thinking of having 6 sets made. And That will be it. It's a one run ONLY. I will order them next Wed. Thursday morning will be too late. I need one set for my Royale. So I can have it ready for the Nov Chicago indoor show. I will not order extras for later request. I'm selling them at my cost. The thing is that I have a 7 inch piece of the the side stripe from when I widened my entry side door on our 78 Royale. So I have a perfect piece that they can reproduce from. Every original Royale that I've ever seen has had the same three colored stripe. I'd call it a brown to orange kind of. Regardless of year. Checking into the signal stripe Mon. That one will be simple. As it's just one solid color.Bob Dunahugh 319-521-4891 Iowa

Bob,

The Painted Desert stripe is actually two separate stripes and only on the front end. (does not go the entire length of the coach)

Looks like this...

I'd be 100% in for a set of these if the price is right.

The stripes where the same on all early coaches, just different colors (Orange green and blue) however as a option you could also get stripes down both sides, here is a photo of them.

That Painted Desert is what mine looks like right now with the smaller pin striping down the entire length of the coach. Just the front stripes are faded and cracking. The pinstripes are still in good condition as it my paint. If I could get a new set of front stripes, I'd be set.

Not to bust anyone's chops, just for the record:

Each year of Coachman products have different colors and stripes. Part of this comes from the color the empty coaches were painted by GM. Transmodes leaving the factory were WHITE in 1975 and 1976, yellow in 1977 and light tan in 1978. (Slight variation at the start and ends of model years but close enough.)

The white Royales (and Birchavens) got a brightly colored yellow/orange/brown stripe. Kind of pretty but, to me, look unfinished.

<http://www.bdub.net/publications/1976%20Royale/1976_Royale.htm>

The yellow (1977) coaches had the GM applied stripes on front (a lot like the 73/74 GM products) and Coachman applied stripes in the rear. While they looked matching when new, they were different materials and did not age the same.

<http://www.bdub.net/publications/1977_Royale/1977royale1.html>

The tan coaches (1978) got the three color stripes they seem to be talking about here. As they made a TON of Royales in 1978, it may be why many think all Royales look like this from Coachman.

A note on 1978 Coachman stripes: If the vinyl is in good shape, but the color is faded, they can be turned bright white by wiping with acetone. While white stripes do not stand out, they could look better than faded and is MUCH easier to do than stripe removal. Also easier on the paint.

I have two sets not called for. The brown tone Royale ones. I will check Monday morning about having the last 2 made in other colors. Faded from color to color, or any solid color. I'm fairly sure that can be done. To make the ORIGINAL looking Royale tricolor strip. They have to have a piece of that original stripe. I have a 7 inch piece that I cut out of mine. Like I said. I'm sure they could just change the colors of that pattern on that side of the role. The role would be made in just one pass. The material that is used is about 48 inches wide. Then printed 25 ft long. It is sold by the sq ft. The original stripe is 4.5 inches wide. Thus 9 inches total for both sides. I could have just one set made for my use only. But, I would stile have to pay for the for the unused 39 inches at the same per sq ft price. Thus using the full width will be the most economical. The more I can order of any colors. The more I can bring the cost down per set. If you are interested. E-mail
me with the subject line of, stripes For faster answers. Call me anytime on my cell 319- 521-4891 central time.. I prefer calls for question. As I'm really short on time. Bob Dunahugh
