I would like to find a relatively small, efficient vacuum for cleaning the carpet in our vehicles. Especially our van, which is the dog carrier.

Any suggestions??

Thanks

I use a 1 gallon shop vac with a detailing attactment that can be bought at Walmart. The great thing about it is that it uses the same size hose as my 12 gallon shop vac. We use the 12 gallon shop vac as our whole house vacuum with a traditional floor attachment from a Kenmore canister vac we bought at Sears.

Why do we use the shop vac you ask...... because we have hardwood floors, 5 dogs, 2 cats, and 3 bird cages.

The Kenmore vacuum couldn't keep up. We bought an extra attachment to use on the 1 gallon shop vac for our travel trailer and the coach. Smaller size, same suction power.

The detailing attachment is shop vac brand, think Tina paid 12 bucks for it. Comes with a reducer nozzle and a bunch of smaller brushed and crevice attachments.

I think I may have the same vac that Jared got, the 1 gallon size, except the online price was $19. DW got mine for me also, and she paid less than that for it but didn't tell me how much. It has a bag inside, which keeps it much cleaner inside in terms of dust, and allows me to use it as a wet vac just by removing the bag first and then go right back to dry vacuuming after dumping any liquids. Very handy in the GMC and other vehicles, just kinda wish it came with a longer hose, but I can use a hose from any household vac if I desire. I put some wheel weights inside to make it more bottom heavy. I posted on here awhile back about it, and I think I posted a link to it at Amazon.

Not to be a showoff, I do not have one. I will pay a reasonable price for a product that really works. We have several here, old Sears shop vac, two Dysons (one is good in the house, not so good in the compact, irregular space as the van) and a dirt devil, that did a very good job on the flat floor of the van.

We use an older version of this one:

http://dirtdevil.com/products/details/m08230red/ultra-corded-bagged-handheld-vacuum/

works great on pet hair (when we had hairy pets, also works good on down feathers and dropped seed hulls.)

Les,

We recently purchased an Electrolux Ergorapido in Australia for quick pickup jobs. I was going to buy a Dyson hand held but they are
over $400 and that was as much as the Miele vacuum.

At any rate it is available in the USA:

http://www.electroluxappliances.com/Homecare/Vacuum-Cleaners/Lightweight-Vacuum-Cleaners/EL1030A.aspx

The reason we like it is because it has a rotating brush in the floor head that works well on carpet and floors. The "head" comes
out and works well.

Obviously the down side is it's size.

In the GMC over here we have a Shark hand held also with a rotating brush in the head. I did a Google search but I can't seem to
find it. It may not be made any more.

Regards,
Rob M.

We've tried most brands over the years. The only vacuum I've found which will survive a steady diet of BWD fur is a Shop Vac.

Yep, we travel with a Cocker Spaniel/Rat Terrier mix named Billie Jean. Looks just like a Cocker except her hair does not continuously grow, she just sheds it like a Terrier.

After a 3 day trip we have a fur coated Camper!!

The little 1 gallon shop vac is invaluable to us.

I have a couple of Dyson hand helds--expensive but do they work! I keep one in the house and one in the garage and take it with me when I take the GMC out.

I forgot another option that has worked well for me. I have a Dewalt hand help wet/dry vacuum that uses the same battery as my drills. Its very well built and has a strong suction.
