Sharon and I hosted the GMCWS rally last October at Coos Bay, OR. We had folks that had been to GMCMI as well as those who had not. Scheduling is not just an issue of "who sets their dates first" as this discussion might imply. The venue has a lot to do with it as well. Our original preferred dates were a week earlier but the ball rooms at the venue were already booked for that weekend so we moved the dates out one week. As I recall there also was some movement in the dates for GMCMI so it turned out the time between the two events was ok, even thought the distance was daunting for one driving a GMC.

I, too, think it imperative for those planning the twice yearly events for these two groups to work together as best they can but be careful to jump to the conclusion that there is malice involved if the time between seems short. The "best" solution would be for one or the other club to index their dates by 30 to 90 days but that may not be practical given the weather east and west of the Rockies. West it is too cold anywhere north before April or May and too wet north anywhere after mid October. The west coast rallies cannot all be scheduled in So. Cal so that means dates after April/May or before mid October to include our Canadian and Northwest friends. I don't know, but would guess GMCMI has similar weather restrictions. If not, then indexing 30 to 90 days east of the Rockies might be a solution.

Net, net, lets try not to overlap but not throw rocks if close date scheduling does occur.

I am a member of both groups. It has always distressed me that The two
groups can not reach a workable solution to scheduling overlap. As a small
vendor, I always weigh the size of the group against the distance that I
have to travel to participate in rallies. I know that it is a problem for
all vendors, both large and small. I approached this issue when I was Tech.
V.P. of western states without any apparent success. Sure seems to me that
it could be accomplished.

Jerry, as you can see from the data I posted in the thread earlier the number of days and distance between rallies has been all over the place and, with your exception, virtually no one attends both club rallies except Jim Kanomata. He is the person I feel bad about.

Bob and I really wanted to attend the Coos Bay rally last year, as we had
two or three years earlier, but, again, because of where International was,
we just couldn't make the long trip. Your rallies always sound so fun, and
we love the area, we'd get there if we had a little more travel time. I
know scheduling is difficult for all the clubs.

The ideal situation would seem to be having them close to each other and a short time between them or, as has been done before, having "joint" rallies. The "joint" rally idea has been tried at least twice with GMCWS but it seems that other clubs just get swallowed up by the bigger crowd and the distinctive atmosphere of GMCWS is lost. GMCWS people did not like it that way. Kim and I tried to work out a back-to-back rally schedule in Tucson last year but the park owners were inflexible and would not cooperate so Kim dropped out and we had our own in Amado, AZ.

Armand,

Having attended a fair few GMCMI "joint" Conventions and the Coos Bay combined GMCWS / Pacific Cruisers / 49er's Rally I can attest
to and agree with you.

"The "joint" rally idea has been tried at least twice with GMCWS but it seems that other clubs just get swallowed up by the bigger
crowd and the distinctive atmosphere of GMCWS is lost."

I found the Coos Bay Rally "looser." For example I was on the "Entertainment" committee and helped mix and serve Margarita's one
evening and the next it was a concoction that Dwayne Jacobson came up with. I mentioned this to Emery and was told the GMCMI did not
serve booze for fear of legal action if someone got drunk and caused injury. Fair comment.

PLEASE don't get me wrong, I am not criticizing GMCMI but it has been my observation in a "joint" convention things are run the
GMCMI way. In fact the first GMCMI Convention I attended was in Santa Rosa which was a "joint" GMCMI / GMCWS convention. Subsequent
to that GMCMI Convention every one I have attended follows the same pattern. Once again I am NOT criticizing GMCMI, it's just an
observation.

Thanks Rob. We agree, nothing is wrong, it is just two different clubs with two different cultures but both with the same missions: preserving the "Classic GMC Motorhome". I am a member of both and encourage others to do the same - the GMC can't have too much support.
