Hi All - I 'found' this distributor in my parts and with just a brief check of the numbers, it appears that it is not usable in our 1974, 455 motor. Is this correct??

Thanks

Which distributor is it? A lot of what determines which one can be used is California type emissions requirements.

Wait, I just saw you DO live in California. Sorry. If that distributor didn't come in the year vehicle you want to install it in it is my understanding you will be in violation of the law for making an environmental, earth destroying modification to the motorhome that still is cleaner than a 2 stroke weed eater.

Mike,

Speaking of nanny states, it would be nice if you could create a signature file like mine.

If it's an Olds big-block distributor and you don't live in a state that requires emissions certification on a 40 year vehicle just
take it to a shop and have the curve set to what you need. If you do live in one of those states.......consider living elsewhere
life is easier when you don't live in a nanny state..

Sir: the 6 (1976) B (Feb) 17 (th day) is the build date of the dist. 1103210 should be an HEI dist with the coil in the cap for a car as Cardone crosses. Your 74 should be points and the HEI is a very good upgrade. I think a 74 is exempt from Calif emissions so you can modify.

Chuck,

Good info!

I think the GMC has to be a '76 or later to avoid the CA emissions check.

You back fightin' fit?

All you got to do is change out the resistor wire or what most do is leave it in place and run a new switched hot to it and top dead center and whack it in!

It needs to have been built before 1976, so even some 1976 coaches are
California smog exempt.

Plato seems wrong to me today.
