Kerry posted a question about this highway. Should you be coming down 57 through Illinois, you change numbers at Sikeston from 57 to 60, never making a turn. You will only notice the name change on the signs. This highway was upgraded to 4 lanes all the way to Springfield, with all work now completed. The terrain is flat from the River to Poplar Bluff. Elevation will be about 500 feet above sea level when you leave Poplar Bluff. There are just a few hills in the next county west of Poplar Bluff. The tallest is about 900 feet above sea level. After passing through Van Buren there will be a couple of more hills then the land flattens back out with only a few rolling hills. It is probably the flattest road through the Ozarks Mountains. Beautiful scenery. I was the lonely parole officer over in the Van Buren area for years. We had nothing but pig trails then for highways. This new 60 is very nice and you will be able to negotiate all of the 3 or 4 hills no matter how much your toad weighs. Just leave the cruise on.

I am sure everyone has their roads all mapped out by now. But, if not, a couple of thoughts:
Should you be coming from the east, and are south of I-70, then 60 is you best and shortest route. No St Louis to worry about. Best time to navigate through there is after 8 pm.
If you are north of I-40 this may also be your best route. Crossing the river at Dyersburg then traveling 412 and 63 to 60 might be for you, as previously noted.
Just don't question hi way 60, west of the river, it is all 4 lane now with the stinking old crooks and curves straightened out.
We live in Dexter so should you have any needs I am on the Black List.
See you 12 days,
Dan

What Dan said.......

From Sikeston to Springfield it is all four lane with gas a'plenty along the way. You will not have a traffic light going west until you hit Mountain View (2), then another set at Seymour (2), then Rogersville (3), and only one more before you hit the interchange putting you on 65 south (be in the right lane for the cloverleaf). You will not even penetrate Springfield unless you wish to. You will only catch the SE corner.

Going south into Branson, there are waaayyyy steeper grades than the ones Dan brought up, but nothing that you can't handle by dropping her into low.

Please see my earlier posts about avoiding the Branson strip after, say....3pm, unless you want a nice leisurely hour drive for the last 3 miles.

As for the Blacklist, we are also on it. I will most likely be commuting back and forth from Springfield buy my rig will be at the KOA. My cell is 417 849 2997.
