I'm going to be visiting some relatives near Carbondale, Il and mapquest shows either up toward St Louis and down I44 or over through Cape Girardeau over to Sikeston and west on US60. Is US60 a good four lane all the way or is it hilly and twisty. The wife gets car sick on curvy roads and I don't want that but I'd also prefer to avoid St. Louis.

Run up The Great River Road to Chester and cross there, then up 55 till you cut across to 44. 60W is beautiful, but it has its crooked parts. If you're in a hurry, interstate the way. We lived in Blytheville years ago, then moved to Tulsa. Common ride was down through the Ouichitas to Hot Springs, up to Jonesboro, Newport, and over to Hope/Prescott. It's kinda hilly. 60 was a decent route, mostly good two lane then, I dunno how much has been four laned in the interim.

~ Kerry,

We will be leaving Birmingham
on Coridor X west to Tupelo Mississippi ~
on US 45 north to Jackson Tennessee ~
on US 412 west thru Kennett Missouri
and on to Walnut Ridge Arkansas ~
on US 63 north to Willow Springs Missouri,
on US 60 west to Battlefield Missouri ~
on US 65 south into Branson.
~> Some hills & Curves on US 63
between Cherokee Village Arkansas
and Willow Springs Missouri otherwise
it's excellent roads all the way
~> BUT Stay Away From Hwy 160 <~

This would be a good return route from
Branson and instead of coming all the
way south into Tupelo Mississippi, just
soon after you cross into Mississippi
on US 45 south you go east on US 72 at
Corinth Mississippi and hammer down to
HARVEST ALEBAMY ~

We recently came across Kansas on US 54
to Collins Missouri and took the Kansas
Pike 13 south to S Springfield Missouri
{with jaunt down to Branson on US 65}
then back north to US 60 east and on back
To SWEET HOME ALEBAMY ~

~ Joe ~

Generally four-lane. Recently surfaced. Curves. Stop signs in some spots
unlike an interstate that has none. I'd advise getting across the river at
anywhere but Cairo unless you like to live on the wild and narrow side.

Nothing wrong with crossing the river at Cairo on I-57. Nice wide interstate highway. The only stop lights are over near Springfield, one 70 miles east of Springfield.

Absolutely stay away from Missouri 160. YOu will see your own tail lights ahead of you and your navigator will have their head in a barf bag.

~ I didn't have my glasses on and thought Kerry
was talking about Missouri hwy 160 ~

A few years back we left Branson with the towd
on Missuri hwy 160 and it took us an EXTRA day
just to get to Fairdealing {stopping only for
barf bags, toilet paper and headake powder} ~
BUT
we managed to keep the Toad's windshield, rear
light lens and the GMC's taillights clean~
~ LOL ~

I used to stop at the Fairdealing store to warm my feet on my way to the courthouse. My old Datsun pickup barely had any heat.
Only locals should travel 160 between Doniphan and Branson. Most of them go up to 60 if traveling very far.
