The battery that I installed last August was giving me trouble so I replaced it with the identical model (warranty). When I turned on the ignition the fan started and the indicator lights in the dash came on. When I tried to start, the solenoid clicked and everything went dead. I initially installed in the dark so I removed the battery. The battery tested fine for voltage. Today was my first opportunity to try installing in the daylight and the same thing happened. I'm not quite sure where to start looking for the problem. Could the problem be at the starter?

Make sure all the cable ends are tight. Sounds like one isn't.

Check all the connections... you got voltage but no amperage...if all connections are good then have battery load tested.

Remove and shiny clean the ground to the block. Then, reinstall it and apply anti-corrosion coating to the ground connection. Bad grounds do very strange things.

Of course! Rechecked the connections that I thought I had checked and double checked. Loose ground. Embarrassingly simple.

Thanks gentlemen!

Jim; I have the same problem with our coach - all my cables are new as
well as the solenoid. I read recently an article about Starter Solenoid
Wiring on the net. Will find it and send you the link. I think that is
where our problem is.
I have to start our coach using the booster switch. Even tried to jump
start the coach first to the starter battery - no go, then back to the aux
battery and using the booster switch it started.

The problem I had was that the battery and cables are of the side connection type. The threads on the ground were somewhat compromised and they gave the appearance of being tight when they were actually not. I solved the problem by running a bottoming tap into each battery terminal and put each cable bolt into a die. Clean threads, problem solved. I don't know if I messed the threads up trying to install the battery in the dark or if they were already damaged. I will probably try to make the connection modification when we return from vacation. We will be leaving Sunday and returning about 10 October by way of Coos Bay.

The tap and die have proven very useful with this 37 year old coach.

Sounds like a loose or dirty connection to the battery or starter, either plus or ground. If you or some PO has put "Get-by" clamp on ends on either or both battery cables, look there first and then replace those cables with molded on calmp cables.
