I hope I do not jinx myself by gloating on this report.

I did my pre-winter oil change a couple of weeks ago and sent a sample in to Blackstone. I just hit 100,000 miles on this engine.

Everything came back below normal limits. The only thing present was a trace amount of antifreeze. I'll have to watch that but I think that got there from when we pulled the radiator and dunked in in the tank at the radiator shop. I saw some of the antifreeze get into the oil cooler at that time. We blew out the cooler but did not flush it prior to reinstalling it. So I'm hoping that is where the trace amount of antifreeze came from. This oil change had 6000 miles on it with one quart added during that time. It was suggested by Blackstone that I could go an additional 3000 miles on the next change. I won't because I change it every 6000 or every winter prior to parking it. I know I will not put on 6000 next year.

This engine has always used Rotella Dino 15w40 oil and Wix filters while I have owned it. The only PO also used Rotella Dino oil.

Thats all I use is that Rotello. Its good stuff. I usually add some Marvel Oil as well to the oil, and fuel. My 71 and 79 Mercedes love that MMO!

Ken,

I agree with what you've noted re the anti-freeze in the oil - we should have flushed both the oil coolers out with brake or carb
cleaner and blown them out with air repeatedly.

My experiment of changing to 40 weight Royal Purple full synthetic to see if it would reduce oil consumption didn't work, oil
consumption was still high as compared to what I've read here.

HOWEVER, I drive Double Trouble at the speed limit and then some, if it's 75 I set the cruise control to 75 and downhill it drifts
up. I have noted that if I drive at 60-65 the consumption drops.

I changed back to Shell Rotella T 15W-40 Dino this year and added 5 oz of SFR to bring the ZDDP up to over 1400 PPM.

Regards,
Rob M.

My report shows the oil a 1462 PPM of zinc and 1120 Phosphorus after 6000 miles. I'm running original Rotella CI4+ oil which I stocked up on before the change a few years back.
