Cool Hello, all.

Thought you might be interested in what's happening in the market for our coaches. Over the past couple of weeks I've been advertising Big Yellow (1976 Glenbrook) on the Bethuse Sales website, eBay and Craigslist. The highest real offer I've had is $10,200. My target is $12,000, which Buddy Bethune thinks is low.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Cheers,

Dave

not just GMC coaches. it is hard to find a buyer period. if it is truly worth the asking price, there will eventually be a buyer.

I have been involved with plenty of sales the past few years. and it just seems to be taking longer to get any serious buyers.

I have several "fixeruppers" here at my place that are for sale and with my experience it is just getting the right GMC with the right buyer. Price isn't that important, with in reason. The other side is "you get what you pay for." Don't expect to get a cherry for a grand..............Terry

I'm on the buying end of this formula (sorry, Dave... the wife's really not into yellow). Crying or Very Sad

The market is really confused right now - the asking prices are all over the place, while the selling prices seem to be pretty low. From what I can see, the ones that are selling are priced pretty aggressively, either selling in the first few days at a fire sale price, or after the price drops considerably.

I'm looking at well-sorted, highly upgraded/updated rigs in the $12-20k range, and am basing what I'm willing to pay on sites like this: http://gmcws.org/sold.htm

So I'm hoping to find one of those "perfect" rigs - one that the previous owner has replaced / updated the mechanics and interior. I know they're out there, so it's just a matter of finding the right one and cutting a (cash) deal. I know that GMCs are selling for less than "they're worth", though in the end, everything is really "worth" what it sells for I suppose.

Mark,
Here is one at a dealer's site. It has been listed for over 9months so who
knows what it will take to buy it.

Bruce,

Thanks a load for the info. I'm familiar with both those coaches. The one the dealer has is a GREAT example of what's out there, but sadly, it's a 23', and I really need that whopping extra 3' (need to be able to sleep two couples and a couple small kids occasionally).

I've talked to the owner of the other rig at length. There's no doubt it's a great deal - it's certainly the "hot rod" of the rigs I've looked at. But I've gotta keep the wife happy, and she's looking for something a little more sorted out inside (Robert's in the middle of a restoration of the interior now that he's got the mechanicals sorted out).

I'm also hoping to find something within 500 miles of the Phoenix area (I've considered rigs as far away as Virginia, but it's just too complicated and risky to go that far hoping that all the details will fall into place).

Mark, There is one on the Tucson Craig's list that looks somewhat promising:

http://tucson.craigslist.org/rvs/3075308392.html

It just showed up today, I think. Some of the info is not accurate (302 engine??? I think he means a 403) and it appears nto need some work here and there. It might be worth a look.

From the look of the rear bumper, I'd say this one has used those wheels at the back a few times

Anyone else notice that the same coach is listed twice. It first sold for $15k then again for $10k... only 4 years later.

Some nice coaches have been sold, most at good prices.
But his 23 foot one has me wondering: (If you are in a hurry read the last sentence.)

Quote:

1973 Sequoia 23' - 36,009 Original miles, it will be used until sold. Runs and drives great on new tires. Mechanically sound. Rear dinette turns into Full bed. Couch behind drivers seat turns into bunks. Original green and white interior, no rips or tears. Roof air blows cold. Runs and drives great on new tires. All manuals included. Stored inside. Outside is in great shape with original paint; the nose does have a few scratches and the bottom of the generator door a crack in it. Onan Generator runs good and does it's job but does leak some oil through the dipstick. We think that the converter may be bad as the refridgerator works off of battery only. We hate to sell it but our family is outgrowing it. See inside photos HERE. Additional pictures can be emailed. Asking $11,000.00 make and offer. Located in Washington, PA. Contact Casey at 724-xxx-5165 and leave a message. (6-27-11) Sold 9-29-11 for $1.

Hell of a buy!

I saw the Tucson rig - really not bad, but I need to find one that doesn't need too much work (particularly cosmetic work) if I'm going to get the wife to sign off.

bdub - sorry, I couldn't find your "sold list" when I went looking for the link (I normally have it up on a "semi-permanent tab", but my PC just spontaneously restarted. I've actually built an Excel spreadsheet that tracks the status of the "for sale" page (though it can't catch changing the photo to "sold"). At least I can see when one is added, or if the location is replaced with "price reduced" (which is why I built the sheet).

But I'm seriously interested in any hints / links / suggestions / intel anyone has on any likely suspects out there.

Here's a related question for the GMC cognoscenti...

If I have the VIN (TZE#) of a particular coach, how can I go about finding out if it's in the GMC directory (and what information I can find from the directory). I'm looking at a coach that is owned by someone who's had it for only a year, and seems to know almost nothing about it. OTOH, it's been heavily updated with many options the current owner doesn't even recognize as updates. It would be very helpful if I could find out that "it's Harry Smith's old Royale, and he rebuilt x, y, and z when he owned it", for example.

I think the 1978 Royale with the fuel injected 500" Cadillac in California that sold for 15,000 was a steal.

We really should start keeping a log, either paper or computer. I have been antique airplane hunting and finding the logs are really sketchy. Someone says they have a new cylinder they just installed, but that was in 1995.

John Shotwell maintains the GMC Registry and though he probably won’t give you specifics due to privacy concerns he will let you know information about the coach if it was listed.

Go to the GMC Registry at http://www.gmcmhregistry.com/index.html
and go to the Contact page and click on "Contact Me" and send an email
to John Shotwell and he will provide any info he may have on the coach
it it is in the registry. If he doesn't have it in the registry then
you have found another coach.

All, thank you SO much for your help. I was able to contact the previous owner of the rig I wanted to buy because of the registry and the quick response from Bill Massey and John Shotwell. The PO was able to fill me in on all the work done on the coach (new rebuilt motor and tranny within 5000 miles, plus a huge amount of updates / upgrades). I would have been scared to death of this rig otherwise, since the new owner really didn't know anything about it. The good news is that he also didn't know that the previous two owners had spent about $100k making it better.

Anyway, here she is:

http://www.habcycles.com/gmcmh.htm

The only real mystery at this point is "what is she?". The VIN (and tag - see the bottom photo) say it's a Transmode, while all the other evidence points to a Royale. I guess I don't care too much either way, but it sure looks (smells, feels) like a Royale, with nice walnut cabinets and the typical center kitchen, dry bath layout.
